Christmas Time is Here (tune: Farmer in the Dell) Christmas time is near. Christmas time is near. Merry Christmas everyone. Christmas time is near It’s time to trim the tree. It’s time to hang the stocking. It’s time to hang the stocking. Merry Christmas everyone. It’s time to hang the stocking. Santa will soon be here. Santa will soon be here. Merry Christmas everyone. Let’s all do a little clapping… Let’s all do a little jumping… Let’s all do a little twirling… …And spread Christmas cheer.

Bells on the Sleigh-song (tune: Wheels on the Bus) The bells on the sleigh go ring, ring, ring (pretend to ring bells) Ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring The bells on the sleigh go ring, ring, ring All through the sky. The toys on the sleigh say “Let’s have fun...” (throw hands into the air) The reindeer on the sleigh fly way up high… (move hands upward in diagonal direction) The snow on the sleigh falls gently down… (flutter fingers and move downward) The driver on the sleigh says “Ho, ho, ho!”… (pretend to drive sleigh) Does Santa have a reindeer named Prancer? Does Santa have a reindeer named Ed? Does Santa have a reindeer named Dasher? Does Santa have a reindeer named Fred? Does Santa have a reindeer named Comet? Does Santa have a reindeer named Star? Does Santa have a reindeer named Cupid? Or one named Cookie Jar? Does Santa have a reindeer named Blitzen? Or one named Lovey Bear? Does Santa have a reindeer named Pizza? Or one named Underwear? Does Santa have a reindeer named Dancer? Does Santa have a reindeer named Moo? Does Santa have a reindeer with the very same name As any one of you? |
Parent Tip Take-Home – Print Motivation
Research indicates that print motivation, or having a joy of and interest in reading and books, is an important skill for children to develop before they go to school. Your child can acquire this skill with your help!
Today at the Library…
we read stories about Christmas and gift giving. When you are going over your Christmas list remember that books make a wonderful gift. The best way to develop print motivation in your child is to make your book-reading or book-sharing time as positive and enjoyable as you can. It is more important for this time together to be positive than it is to be long.
The children are already so excited about the holiday season. It would be wonderful if we could catch their enthusiasm and slow down to enjoy it. Take a little time to snuggle with your child and share some seasonal stories. In addition to our wide collection of Christmas books we have Hanukkah and Kwanza books available. Whether you purchase books for gifts or checkout library books make your holiday reading time fun. Encourage your child to love books and the stories within them. Talk about your favorite stories, repeat the rhymes and make books a part of your lives.
