“Conversations”: creations of young French and Finnish artists
"Conversations" is a major art event consisting of several exhibitions in Helsinki and Kerava from 22 August till the end of December 2007, presenting more than 20 young French and Finnish artists and a selection of video art.
The centre for visual arts Keravan Taidemuseo, seven contemporary galleries Galleria Hippolyte, Galleria Pirkko-Liisa Topelius, Galleria Muu, Galleria Huuto, Galleria Duetto, Galleria Krista Mikkola as well as the Kuvataideakatemia galleria in cooperation with the Centre Culturel Français have put together a series of exhibitions which is the largest presentation to date of French contemporary art in Finland.
Cécile Marie, an art critic and expert on French and Nordic contemporary art - who had curated Vasta Maalattu in Paris in 2004 and in Kerava in 2005 -, is the curator of this event. The Museum of Kerava will be hosting the largest exhibition from 22 August till 21 October 2007.
Exhibition Conversations : peinture.fr//maalaus.fi will be presenting Olga Boldyreff, Béatrice Cussol, Saara Ekström, Marina Gadonneix, Mikko Ijäs, Pierre Mabille, Audrey Nervi, Tarja Pitkänen-Walter, Léopold Rabus, Riiko Sakkinen, Cédric Teisseire, Heli Vehkaperä, Emmanuelle Villard, and Stéphanie Vialles.
It is a dialogue beetween abstract and realistic questions, conversations about history of colour, and the place of pictures and narrative elements in painting today. Conversation is also a ”parti pris” as a curator, to listen to the pieces more than to build a show with a thematic topic or a theoretical and closed speech.
The Hippolyte gallery which specialises in photography, will exhibit the works of the young French artist Marina Gadonneix from 14 September till 7 October 2007.
The Kuvataideakatemia will be presenting drawings, paintings and videos by Olga Boldyreff, Béatrice Cussol, Audrey Nervi, Olivier Nottellet, Guillaume Pinard, Leopold Rabus, Cedric Teisseire, Catharina Van Eetvelde and Emmanuelle Villard from 19 October to 11 November 2007. At the same time, Galerie Muu will be presenting a selection of French video art, with Pascal Lièvre.
All this event curated by C. Marie will be followed by other exhibitions and conversations in Helsinki. The Duetto gallery, which specialises in graphic art, will exhibit the works of the young Finnish artist Veronika Ringblom in discussion with Béatrice Cussol 10 October till 4 November 2007. The Huuto gallery will show video-works of Tuuli Luukas and Marie Legros from 1 to 14 October. Tuuli Luukas and the French artist Marie Legros have worked together on the project during the artist residency of Tuuli Luukas in France this spring and summer. The gallery Pirkko-Liisa Topelius will be presenting the works of Miisa Hatakka and Stéphanie Vialles from 9 to 28 October.
