STRONGER CHURCHES, MEETING NEEDS 

What is a strong church?  I believe one of the signs of a strong church is when that body of believers has not only knowledge and understanding of the Scriptures, but also applies and lives out the very Word of God. They live out their faith in word and deed by meeting people’s needs spiritually as well as physically.  

That is one of the main reasons we are going as a family to Zambia-to strengthen the church.   

Through the International Bible College, there will be equipping of more national preachers with accurate biblical knowledge.  This enables them to have a firm foundation and teach the true word of God.  More preachers being trained equals less churches each pastor must shepherd; which in turn equals more time for discipleship and development within the churches to meet needs. 

These pastors will receive hands on agriculture experience and training that they can show to their churches.  Training in better land management equals more food. One of the goals of the International Bible College is to be self-sustaining, which will help show the students that they can lead their churches and villages to be self-sustaining too.  In Third World countries, pastors are expected to not only be the shepherds of their flocks, but to also help meet all the needs of their church family. Gospelink also plans to be able to offer other learning opportunities at the school (Nursing, Business, Construction).  These will also equip the students to be better able to meet their churches’ needs.   

As more needs are being met, more people will want to know why.  Those questions can be answered with teaching on the love of Christ and loving your neighbor as yourself; equaling more people being saved and discipled.  

While in Zambia last summer I interviewed a national pastor and asked him why I and my family need to come, why the school is needed.  He told me that Islam is growing in Zambia.  Why?  Because it is meeting needs.  Muslims are coming in, bringing employment and cheap education (where they are taught the Islamic faith).  Islam is meeting the people’s needs and the people are drawn to it. 

A strong national church in Zambia will be one that meets her people’s needs both spiritually and physically.  I am excited to have a part of strengthening the church in Africa.  

 

Prayer & Praise 

Please join us in thanking God for His many blessings!  We are praising God for what He has done in our lives so far and are looking forward to what He will be doing.  We are thankful for: 

·         Tony, our missions chairman who has been super supportive and encouraging, has put up with our frustrations, and been a wonderful resource of information for us 

·         Our Tuesday night prayer group, whom we have prayed with, laughed with, cried with, and grown tremendously with.  We look forward to every Tuesday and will miss them very much when we go 

·         Our parents, who brought us up in loving homes and taught us and gave us opportunities to learn about God 

·         Teachers from Sunday school, Bible School, Mission Training International who have committed themselves to the teaching of God’s word and took the time to impart some of that knowledge to us and our kids 

·         Christ’s sacrifice for us, His desire for our lives as living sacrifices, the call He has placed on our lives 

·         12 years of marriage on February 17^th and the many blessings God has granted our family (see reverse!) 

·         Our work permits have finally been applied for!  Please pray that we will be able to meet all requirements and be approved 

·         The container is here and we have finally begun loading.  We hope to have pick up for shipment by the end of February. 

·         Brian is looking to spend a week at ECHO in Ft. Myers, FL in March.  ECHO stands for Educational Concerns for Hunger Organization.  Part of their purpose is to work with and develop farming methods for third world countries. 

·         Continued contacts and opportunities to share our hearts and vision

Yes!  We are THRILLED to announce another blessing will be arriving in the Kallevig household in August 2008! 

 

ONE WEEK 

Does the amount of monthly support we need to raise overwhelm you?   

Do you wonder how what you can give can make a difference? 

Our Father God is the one who owns the cattle on a thousand hills.  He isn’t asking you to give all the cows you have to Him, He may just be asking you to be a part of those who help pay for the feed! J (Sorry, those farm analogies…)  If you are receiving this newsletter, you are part of a larger group of individuals that we are sharing our hearts and vision with.  It’s the power of many:  if each one in that group gave just $10 a month, we would easily meet our support goal.  Some may be called to do even more.  But do not think that any part you can play would be too small. 

We also understand that God hasn’t called everyone we know to partner with us.  God has already chosen whom He wants to join our support team.  But since He has not told us who those people are yet, all we are asking is that you commit for one week to daily, intentional prayer, seeking the Lord as to what your role, if any, is in our ministry finances.  Listen with your heart and then chose to follow His leading, whatever that may be.  You won’t know if you don’t ask!
