Topic: City University is getting crowded and lacks sufficient space for student, give out the reasons for why and please give suggestions to overcome the problems.
If you tried to go to City University at noon, it is not difficult to feel that you have just entered the Lunar New Year Fair. You will easily find that there is jostled by the crowd everywhere, especially canteen. Except the lunch hours, there are also lots of people all around campus, the concourse, classrooms, toilets…etc. In the following essay, I am going to discuss the reasons of City University is getting crowded, which is because the City University accepted too many students every year and the original purpose for main Campus was not being used as a university. Afterwards, I will discuss the solutions are to lower the numbers of enrollment and to expand the campus in other districts.
The main reason for City University is getting crowded is that City University accepts too many students every year. According to the statistic from the University, there are around 3300 teaching and administrative staffs and 25000 students in 2007, totally around 28 thousands people, what an amazing figure! Also, except undergraduate students, there are still a lot of associate degree students are also available to use the facilities in the campus, which make the campus really crowded and it requires lots of patience.
Another reason is, besides the numbers of student accepted, the second reason is the original purpose for building this campus was not being used as an university.
In order to solve the problems, there are a few ways to go:
Firstly, the best and the most direct method for the University is to lower the numbers of enrollment. There is no doubt that number of people in the campus is completely unreasonable. If fewer students qualified in the minimum requirement of enrollment, fewer students will appear in the school campus. Since the main reason for “too crowded school campus” is the number of students exceed its capacity, the best solution must be lower the number of students.
Secondly, the expansion of the campus is likely compulsory. Building more subordinate campuses in other districts may assist to loosen the pressure of our main campus. One of the examples is the “Telford Annex Campus”, which is similar as the Kowloon Tong Campus, it is another campus for associate degree students. It is a good solution to divide some of the students in different district in order to reduce the fluent uses of Kowloon Tong Campus.
In conclusion, it is not surprise that everyone think that the campus has already in fully used. It is very harass for numberless of students hardly trapped in a limited place to study. Especially we had pay hundred thousands in total for studying. So, the University has the responsibility to improve study quality, by taking the right remedial steps to correct a shortcoming, reduce the number of enrollment and increase the space for student’s activities.
When you are in the final year in your undergraduate program, you must be very busy. Why? Since everyone needs to prepare their CV for the job applications and apart from this, they also need to prepare their final year projects. All these two require students to spend much time to prepare; thus, these two are the main reasons why the situation will exist. Below, i will talk about the reasons in detail and provide some possible solutions toward these problems.
First of all, most final year students do not do their homework and attend the classes due to prepare job applications for graduation. Nowadays, the economic of Hong Kong is extremely bad. Many final year students worry that they cannot get a job after graduation. Therefore, some of them start preparing job applications in the final year. Also, the university school fee is extremely expensive. Their parents have already supported their entire school fee for three years. Therefore, they have to earn money for repaying their parents’ kindness. Moreover, doing homework is time consuming.
Moreover, the final year students have to take more than two months to finish a final year project. This final year project is a main criterion to judge the final year students can graduate or not. They always worked over night at computer room. They have not enough energy for attending tomorrow’s lecture. Besides doing final year project and part-time job, students have plenty of tests, dictations and examination. In fact, it is impossible for them to finish all these tasks, so they have to select the most important one and give up the least important one – homework and attending classes.
The main solution to tackle this problem is time management. Teachers can help students to plan their time schedule. For example, suggesting students mark down their homework due date on their notebook. Also, teachers should discuss the work load of homework with their students. Homework should be high quality but not high quantity. Therefore, teachers should give meaningful homework and avoid nonsense homework such the copying work.
The other solution to tackle the problems is to take more courses before year3; In fact, many universities allow students to earn credits in summer term. My friend gave up to do part time job in last summer and chose to study more courses in summer term. Now, he only has to study 10 credits in this year 3 Semester A. Also, he can use his spare time to prepare the job applications now.
Nowadays, it is easy to feel that City University is getting crowded and lacks sufficient space for student. It is very easy to see that the facilities in the university can be enough to satisfy the demand of students. For instance, there is a crowd of students at the entry of canteen and the canteen is full of people. Also supply of the notebooks for the students to book is not enough. This essay will examine the problems by highlighting the main cause: too many students in the university. It will then explore the corresponding possible solution for the cause that could reduce the seriousness of the problem.
The main reason of the problem is that there are too many students. This is because in City University of Hong Kong, there is not only university student, but also associate degree and high diploma students. There are totally about 25 thousands of students in the comparative small campus. So how the facilities in the university can be enough to satisfy the demand of great number of students? How the students have enough space to kill their time? While students have not enough space, they can just find the empty classrooms for their activities, study or taking rest. However, due to the close arrangement of classroom schedule, it is also difficult to find an empty classroom to take rest for an hour.
The best and the most direct method for solving the problem is to lower the numbers of enrollment in City University. Since the capacity of the campus is really too small when compare with that in other universities. Therefore, in order to have a quick response to the problem, the easiest way to minimize the consequences of the problem is lowering the numbers of enrollment. Because when there is less students, students may have more space for their uses.
Moreover, the expansion of the campus is likely compulsory. Building more subordinate campuses in other districts may assist to loosen the pressure of our main campus. Since this can move the learning place of the associate and high diploma students to another campus in the City University. This can ensure that the students in the city university can have sufficient space for the school life.
For those who studied in CityU, have you been found difficulty in trying to find a seat in canteen during lunch time? Were you stuck in somewhere all the time? The only reason was extremely a lot of people staying there. But why this was happened? In the followings, I will explain the reasons further more and suggest some solutions to them.
CityU had possession of many kinds of studying like degree, part-time degree, associated degree, higher diploma and even we haven’t been heard about. The space of CityU was fix, however the number of people who was accepted to study here was increase steady. CityU did not concern the tiny area problem but continuous welcome people to study here because they can earn money from them. As the result, during afternoon to evening, there was no enough space for the students to study.
Furthermore, the original purpose of CityU was not being a university.
(I can’t clarify this point more since I really don’t know CityU was not aim for university at first.)
Despite of those reasons, there were some solutions to fix them out. First, CityU can decrease the students by giving fewer enrollments in every year. This is a quick and direct method to solve the problem. Although the tuition may drop, the university was built not just for the money. Second, other places can be used and built as a study area. For instance, the Community College at Kowloon Bay can be a place for sharing the students. Since no more space around the CityU is available to build the campus, we may have other campus in other districts, like Taipo, Fanling or the places are not fully used.
Autumn Yu is the best teacher I ever met.
She is the associate professor in my department who is being respected by students, even academic staffs. She put great effort in teaching. She emphasizes understanding of ideas. She also does concern our learning habit whether we would feel stressful or not. It is obviously comfortable to express comments and ideas in her lesson since the atmosphere leaded by her in classes is extremely relaxing, but serious meanwhile.
We do enjoy attending her wonderful classes.
To ask me to think of a teacher who i remember, i think of him.
He is a most brilliant teacher that i have ever seen. he teaches mathematics. at the first sight i saw him, i thought he must be a tough and harsh teacher. i still remembered, at the first lesson, he told us that he skipped most of the lessons except the test and exam. he showed us his transcript to us. the worst subject was an extremely hard, game theory, it supposed that the final year students or even postgraduate. he took it when he was a freshment. finally, he got a B plus. the rest of the subjects are at least A minus. he graduated with the first honor. at his second lesson, he asked me to come out and stood in front of the class. he scold me in front of all of the new classmates, 'i have never seen a student who like you, using a chinese composition paper, you are so clever!' i was totally embarrassed and nearly cried. i was supposed to hate him to die, but i wasn't. actually, he is a very talent teacher who always show us how to prove different properties or equations.
He gave us infinte assignments, although it's a big burden, we eventually recognized that it's extremely benfited after our HKAL.
Mr. Wong, was my history course teacher when i was Form.1.
He was a good teacher. He prepared the class materials very well and he explained all the important points to us pentially. Also, he wellcomed us to ask him questions as much as possible.
During his lesson, I enjoyed in very mcuh, since he made the lesson in a relax mood.
I have a foreign lecturer in one of my courses this semester, in contrast, it is easy to see the difference in teaching method between that of foreign teacher and local teacher.
Obviously, my foreign lecturer will not just feed the knowledge to us, since his objective is he prefer the student think more and he always keep asking questions to push students to think about.
Also, it is very usual that he keep asking " do u guys have any problem?" and it seems a pleasure for him when he is asked.
