The Acorn Folk Club

The Old Ship Aground, Quay Street

Minehead, TA24 5UL

The Acorn Folk Club upholds traditional and contemporary folk music on the first Saturday of the months September to July in the Pier Room at The Old Ship Aground, Quay Street, Minehead, and is  committed to bringing the best professional performers possible here to Minehead. Doors open at 7.30 pm and the Club starts at 8 pm.

Occasionally a variation to the date or venue is needed and will be detailed on both the News and Programme pages.  In August there is a summer break, with everyone looking forward to starting the next season each September!

Club Nights feature local artists in extended spots along with floor spots, welcoming everyone whether singing, playing, reciting or listening.

On alternate months The Acorn Folk Club hosts professional Guest Nights, for which you can now by tickets on line (see right hand margin),and other performers are asked to arrive early if they would like a floor spot.

Our Guest last December TOM McCONVILLE has been awarded BBC2 folk musician of the year 2009 (See Folk Awards 2009 to see video)

  His web Site

Entry is £2.00 and a raffle on Club nights, which covers expenses for the features, and also helps to subsidise Guest Nights which are charged according to the artists (£6.00) with a reduction for purchasing tickets in advance and concessions for under 16s.

There is always a warm welcome for everyone and a very good friendly atmosphere.  We like to share cake on birthdays, have mince pies at Christmas and in January we have our Annual party when everyone is happy to contribute to the feast.

The Old Ship Aground is situated right next to the harbour in Minehead, and serves real ale and good food, and is an ideal venue for a folk club. Also Minehead "the gateway to Exmoor" is a good place to visit, and people further afield find it's worth coming for the whole weekend.

Some of the performers are available for bookings and they can be contacted through the Club or the links on the site; there is also an information table each month.
