APES News Report

This is your opportunity to report on something going on in the world, environment currently that peaks your interest.  

Details:

*Be prepared & ready to go at the start of class
*You must present a current environmental event
*You may use a radio, newspaper, media internet source (New York Times online), magazine/periodical, or tv source as your inspiration.  This must be documented (see documentation below).
*You must present the story, at least 1 question for the class to consider based on the story and your point of view (perspective on the story) to the class during your presentation.
*You may use any medium to help you make your presentation-- a radio clip (to be broadcast to class via computer), a newspaper article to share with class, a posterboard, etc.


News Report Structure:

I. Your Presentation :  5 minutes
Includes:  The purpose focus of your News Report, Why you selected this event to report on & any media that you may want to include: video clip, radio blurb, reading from newspaper article
II. Clarifying Questions from class/teacher:  3 minutes
(Be prepared to know what you are talking about.)
III. Open Discussion:  5 minutes
You must prepare at least 1 question for the class to consider based on the story.
You must also be prepared to share your point of view (perspective on the story) to the class during this Open Discussion period.
IV.  "Final Words":  2 minutes
Sum up the discussion and your News report.
Demonstrate that you were an active listener and facilitator during the Open Discussion.
Leave the class with final questions/ideas to consider.


Documentation:
Please hand in the following on the day of your presentation.

*The source of your News story.  The date, title and exact source of where your story originated.  Example:  NPR, August 25, 2008 "All things considered" 7 pm broadcast:  The California Report, Lead in our Houses.
*An Outline of the News Report Structure above ("Lesson Plan")
