Councilmember Jim Graham, Chairperson of the Committee on Public Works and the Environment, will convene a public hearing to discuss a proposal to increase District parking meter rates. The rate increase would raise revenue to restore essential services for District residents. The roundtable will be held on Monday, December 8, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chamber at the Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20004.
A proposed emergency bill would increase parking meter fees throughout the District. Where meters currently charge $1.00 per hour the rate would increase to $1.50 per hour. Where meters charge 50 cents per hour, the rate would increase to 75 cents per hour. In addition, the proposed emergency bill would require payment for parking at meters in the Central Business District on Saturdays.
The Committee invites the public to testify or to submit written testimony, which will be made a part of the official record.
