How to Configure Various Blogs in Scribefire:

I don't profess to know everything about Scribefire. I do know however that it's a great add-on once you've got it configured. Unfortunately, there is currently NO documentation, save what you can find in the old Performancing forum posts. It took a lot of searching to find how to get my various blogs working, so I figured I'd compile it into one place.

Please note that I'm not willing to delete all my blog settings to write this up, so the last step or two in each instruction set I'm trying to recall from memory. If I've got something wrong, please email me the correct last steps and I'll update this document.

For what it's worth, it's figuring what info to log in with that was the hard part. Once you've got the right info, it's cake.

Livejournal-
  1. hit the "Add" button to bring up the Account Wizard
  2. enter the URL your Livejournal, such as http://yourusername.livejournal.com , and hit "Next >"
  3. it should say "Successfully found blog, please continue..."  Hit "Next >"
  4. it will ask what blogging service do you want to add, it should already say Livejournal. Hit "Next >".
  5. enter your livejournal username and password, and hit "Next >".
  6. it should say it was able to log in. Hit Next.
  7. That's all.

Blogger / Blogspot-

Note:
Blogger is picky about tag formatting. It will often reject html tags if they are not closed in xml fashion. That is, a linebreak should look like <br /> , not <br> , and an image tag should look like <img src="blah.jpg /> , not <img src="blah.jpg">. If you have trouble publishing and it complains, view the html and see if you can fix your tags. Often publishing will fail when there is nothing wrong. Just try again. If it keeps failing, it sometimes helps to hit "View this blog" first. I don't know why.

  4. it will say "Please select your blog system" and should have Blogger selected. It will also have a URL for the Server API URL. Don't change anything. Just hit "Next >"
  5. enter the username and password for your blog. **In my case, this was my Gmail username and password.** I have upgraded to the latest version of Blogger. Yours may differ... if so, you're on your own. Hit "Next >".
  6. It should say it's able to log in. Hit Next.
  7. That's all.

Windows Live Spaces-

Windows Live Spaces requires more setup than some of the others. You first have to prepare your Live Spaces account by enabling email posting.
  1. Sign in to your Live Spaces account.
  2. Click on "Edit Your Space" and go to "Options"
  3. In the left menu, click on "Email Publishing"
  4. Put a check in "Turn on Email Publishing"
  5. Put an email address that you will send posts from. I suggest using the one you use to log into Live Spaces with. I put my hotmail email address, since that is associated with my Live Spaces account.
  6. Enter a "secret word".
  7. In Publishing Settings, select "Publish Entries Immediately"
  8. click "Save".

Ok, now you're ready to add your Live Spaces account to Scribefire.
  1. hit the "Add" button to bring up the Account Wizard
  2. enter the URL your Live Spaces blog, such as http://yourusername.spaces.live.com , and hit "Next >"
  3. it should say "Successfully found blog, please continue..."  Hit "Next >"
  4. it will say "Please select your blog system" and should have Windows Live Spaces selected. Hit "Next >"
  5. for username, enter the username part of your Live Spaces URL. My Live Spaces URL is http://vaughnsphotoart.spaces.live.com , so I use vaughnsphotoart
  6. for the password, use the "secret word" you created when setting up email publishing. Hit "Next >".
  7. it should say it was able to log in. Hit Next.
  8. That's all.

MySpace-

Important Note:
This Add-on has a bug! Under certain circumstances, trying to publish to MySpace will instead publish to one of your other blogs, I believe whichever one you posted to before trying to publish to Myspace. Here are the work-arounds I've found for this: (1) Always publish to MySpace FIRST. (2) If you have already published to Myspace once that session, shut down Scribefire and restart it before trying to publish to Myspace again. If you don't, it will end publishing to one of your other blogs. You may have to restart Firefox if restarting Scribefire is not enough.

Instructions for getting Myspace working:
  1. You must have ScribeFire already installed. Then, go to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3229 and get the Myspace Addon.
  2. After installing the add-on, restart Firefox, and bring up ScribeFire.
  3. Click on "Settings" in the left menu. Click the Add-ons tab. Put a checkbox next to MySpace to enable it.
  4. In the left menu, click on "Editor" to bring up the editor screen again.
  5. At the far right of the formatting toolbar, there should now be a MySpace icon. If not, make your browser wider! Click the icon.
  6. Supply the email address you use to log into Myspace with. Supply your password. Hit Login. I think this is all that is required.
  7. Sometimes it won't login, or is slow. If it fails just try again. It usually goes through.
  8. Once logged in, post from the editor as normal.
