Work Experience
Promoter: Graduate Promotions, July 2007- January 2009
I implement strategic decisions for promotional campaigns based in Manchester. Clients include JP Morgan, Delloitte and BT. I distribute flyers, posters and promotional giveaways; finding and gaining the permission for poster locations and ‘lecture hits’, depending on client specifications. A final requirement comprises an evaluation of the campaign plus photographic and written evidence of my work.
Account Executive: Democracy PR, May 2008-Octobrer 2008
Primarily responsible for Jack Daniels Sauce account, for which I managed product photography shoots and writing and securing coverage in national, local and business press along with BBC radio interviews. For other clients I helped manage celebrity launch events and their online PR including setting up affiliate networks. I was also involved in the pitching process and secured one new client for the agency as a result of my work and contacts.
Brand Development and Marketing Executive: PRWD, June 2008-September 2008
Solely responsible for all branding activities of this usability company. Other duties included prospecting new clients, attending regional networking and industry events, creating a stronger online presence (website and email content, blog content, social networks etc), producing branded publicity material and securing regional coverage.
Agency staff: West One: Agency staff, July 2007 – October 2007
This role required independent, pro-active thinking and good adaptation skills as I was usually working in new environments for every shift. I progressed in terms of responsibility very quickly. One example was a Selfridges assignment, where at the end of the first day, I was solely in charge of the ‘Luxury’ delicatessen counter and by the second day, in charge of all aspects of restocking and display of the counter as well as table service.
Assistant Manager: Mark Elliot Furniture, Oct 2003- April 2006
I learnt extensive details of all the company’s specialised products including design specifications and credit payment options. I then deployed this knowledge to sell, face to face with the customer as well as dealing with any customer after-care issues and ensured that the showroom was presentable. I was promoted to managing the store on a part-time basis.
Continuity Person: Eastern Associates, 2005
In this role I was solely responsible for the continuity of a three day shoot as well as shot-logging.
Runner: Capriol Films, 2005
A six week shoot which gave me the opportunity to learn about the general set-up and organisation of a production and also technical details regarding equipment; how such equipment is operated and other trade-specific skills such as using call sheets.
Props Assistant: Eye Film & TV, 2005
I worked on the children’s drama ‘Eel Island’. I ensured deadlines were met, sourced various materials and overcame problems using my own initiative. For example, we ran out of material to make the props and had no budget to buy more so I suggested asking local bars for bottle lids to use. As a result of this initiative, we made all 40 hanging mobiles required by the end of the day.
General Assistant/Runner: Dragon’s Tale Films, 2005
I performed general marketing and office tasks. I re-designed the company letterhead and also assisted on the creation of a children’s drama proposal.
Trainee Projects Administrator: Work experience: Computer Science Corporation, 2003
I acted as a member of a large corporate workforce. I recorded minutes for managerial meetings which involved a great deal of technical jargon. I also took on the responsibility of call logging.
Skills
Computer literate: Excellent knowledge of MS applications, basic knowledge of post- production software. Consistently strive to keep up to date with social network platforms & applications.
Leadership: I acted as managing director of a Young Enterprise ‘events organising’ company, responsible for ten other members in the team.
Organisational skills: I organised a charity auction, which included producing publicity material for the event, sourcing donations for auction, facilitating a guest auctioneer as well as a venue free of charge and raising £1,200 for charity.
Enthusiastic, energetic and adaptable: Having worked in such a wide variety of environments, I have become adept at learning new skills.
Creative thinking to overcome problems: When acting as managing director of an event organising Young Enterprise company, I was faced with the problem of legal restraints preventing our company from progressing with our chosen project. I was able to formulate a solution to this problem, which was accepted by the chairman of Young Enterprise.
Personal Interests and Achievements
I am training to become a qualified member of BSAC (British Sub Aqua Club). I attend practice sessions and am always looking to broaden my scuba dive knowledge through new courses. My achievements include doing a bungee jump and the publication of my poetry. My personal interests include photography and travel, including a planned around the world trip in 2009. I was involved in fundraising for the Lasallian Developing World Project and reached a target of £2,400 donation in a year. This was followed by five weeks in Ghana building sanitary facilities in a small rural town called Kaleo. I am also an active member of the CIM student chapter.
Personal Attributes
My personal qualities include being passionate about my work, my determination, and the honest belief that anything is possible with a bit of hard work. I am enthusiastic with an entrepreneurial spirit and can utilise my creative ability to guide and help other members in a group.
