Materials
Yarn: Asa Gjestal Spinneri Maija (50g = 130m (142 yards); 85% wool, 15% polyamide), approx. 500-550g (10-11 skeins)
Needles: 3,5 mm (US 4)
Hook: 3 mm (US 2-3)
10 Buttons
Size
Approximately 38-40" (medium-large)
Finished measurements:
Length from underarm to the hem: approx. 36 cm (14")
Sleeve length: approx. 48 cm (19")
Chest circumference: approx. 100 cm (39")
Waist: approx. 88 cm (35")
Sleeve circumference at underarm height: approx. 30 cm (11")
Armhole height: approx. 18 cm (7")
Measurements are taken from a cardigan that has been worn and are therefore a bit vague.
Gauge
24 sts / 36 rows in pattern = 10x10cm (4"x4").
Gauge was measured from a finished and worn garment.
In my original swatch the row gauge was 32 rows/4" (the swatch was wet and stretched) and because of that the intended length of 16" from underarm to the hem turned out to be 14" in the finished garment. I recommend you to take this into account and knit the sleeves and the distance between decreases and increases in the front and back pieces according to your own row gauge and desired measurements.
The crocheted edging is about 2 cm (0.8") wide, take this also into account. The number of rows that I have used are marked in parentheses.

Finishing
Weave in the ends. Block pieces as desired. Sew all the seams.
Mark places for the buttons to the other front piece.
When crocheting the edging, hold the back side of the cardigan as the right side. This way the back side of the crocheted edging is on the right side of the cardigan.
Work 1 row of half double crochet (hdc)
to the sleeves and to the hem-button band-collar edge. Make sure that the edges don't become too tight or too loose.
Work second hdc row, but this time make buttonholes to the other front piece by skipping one hdc, ch 2 and hdc to the next st.
Work the picot edging:
Work 3 chains (ch), slip stitch (sl st) into the first ch, *skip the next st, single crochet (sc) in next 2 sts, 3 ch, sl st into the first ch*. Repeat from * to *. If the edging feels too tight or too loose, just leave one sc out or don't skip a st.
Sew the buttons. Weave in the ends.
