Count Your Blessings

When you’re worried and you can’t sleep,

Just count your blessings

Instead of sheep,

And you’ll fall asleep

Counting your blessings.”

Some of you may recognize this old song “Count Your Blessings” sung by Bing Crosby in the movie White Christmas.

How many of you can’t sleep when you are worried? I find that I can dwell on a subject so long – that even when my body is tired, my mind refuses to quit. I am ashamed to say I have kept myself up worrying on more than one occasion. Why do I worry? Has God not shown me time and again He will always make a way and lead me to it? Has He not promised that through Him I shall have all the strength, wisdom, joy, and peace I need? (Phil 4) Why then do I worry?

Wouldn’t it be awesome if for every worry that comes along we would replace our fears and frustrations with praises to God and lists of all He has already done for us? I pray that this Thanksgiving season we are filled with a fresh awareness of all that God has done and is doing in our lives.

Ps. 63:6-7 – “When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches. Because You have been my help, Therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice.” (NKJV)

The same passage from The Message reads –

If I’m sleepless at midnight, I spend the hours in grateful reflection. Because you’ve always stood up for me, I’m free to run and play.”

“…and you’ll fall asleep, counting your blessings.” - Happy Thanksgiving
