Are you in the game long-term?
What do you want your people to be good at?
Care Culture- Put people first
- Act interested, hire people who can do the same
- Treat them like they were your children
- Relationship culture vs. function culture
- Pay people to build relationships, to deliver meaningful experiences, to have conversations...to engage
Recruitment- Attract the best with the best compensation and reputation for care
- Hire people who want to get ahead, who want to learn something
- Hire the Best...and, hire Less of them
- Hire People You can Trust, people who are on the same page...then, get out of the way
- Spend at least 5 times (maybe a 100 times) the amount of time and energy (and money) you normally do on the interview process (Selecting Achievers)
- Give them a vested interest
Invest in Retention- Turnover is your achilles heel, expensive
- Build a relationship that goes beyond business
- Soft Factors- Celebrations, fun, love
- Stay in touch with their world (work the front line...often)
- Decentralize- Give them power...could you operate your hotel with only one manager? Why not?
