David Dunn.
BORN; 1964.
LANGUAGE; Wiradjuri – English.
COUNTRY; Wiradjuri Nation.
AREA; Trangie.
My name is David Dunn; My Aboriginal name is Gaagang. Born in 1964. I am Wiradjuri. I come from a small town 50 miles west of Dubbo called Trangie (in Aboriginal this means" quick", "intercourse"). I use some of the traditional symbols my father and uncles showed me but I try to use my own style. I was told by an Elder from the Warburton community to paint what you feel not what you see, so I paint from the heart and from the memories of my childhood. Our family's totem is the emu and I have been told I have an extremely strong sense of Spirit and Family.
Corobooree
This paintings shows some aboriginals preparing for a corobooree, The Aboriginal man dancing has just become a tribal elder and story teller. he Wiradjuri tribe is also known by the name of "the River people" as we all lived along the banks of the Rivers which stretches across NSW. The Wiradjuri lands stretch from Nyngan to Albury and from Hay to Bathurst - the largest territory in New South Wales. Our country extends across 60,000 square kilometers across areas known as the South West slopes, central and Southern table lands, Capital Country and the Riverina. The Wiradjuri are warriors and wont give in till the end, Our hero Windradyne his blood runs through all Wiradjuri people now and for ever. The spirit of the Wiradjuri people lives on in descendants of those who first inhabited this country. I acknowledge and honour the spiritually and traditions of my people (Wiradjuri) - the first who occupied this land. The three circles joined by squiggly lines represent my signiture and the three rivers of the "Wiradjuri Nation", The Wambool (Macquarie), Kalar (Lachlan) and Murrumbidgerie (Murrumbidgee).©
