    (Highly Gifted,  High Strides,  Traditional)

Highly Gifted-   Our program is the only magnet program in DPS for students who have been identified by the district as being Highly Gifted. All students in the district who have been identified as highly gifted are automatically  invited to attend Morey; no application or choice request is required. These students have demonstrated extraordinary academic ability and intellectual potential. Their learning characteristics and abilities require substantially different educational experiences and services not provided by regular DPS grade level curriculum. Our program is designed to  meet the needs of these exceptional children. A student may visit in this program if he/she has already been identified though the district or has applied to be tested for this program (applications for testing are due to the GT office of DPS by November 3, 2008) Most students in this program score Advanced on their CSAP tests.

High Strides-  High Strides is an intensive learning program in which students will be expected to master the regular DPS middle school curriculum in greater depth and at a more rigorous pace. Critical and creative thinking will be emphasized in all subject areas. Pre-Advanced Placement strategies are integrated into this curriculum to provide a more challenging program. Admission into the High Strides program is competitive. Applicants must complete an application form with Morey and provide letters of recommendation, previous CSAP scores and elementary school progress reports. For students who do not live within Morey's attendance area, admission also requires the completion of a Choice form with DPS.  Most students in this program score Proficient or above on the CSAP test.

Traditional-  Students in this program are also expected to master the regular DPS curriculum, but may need extra support to achieve grade level competencies. This program is designed to meet the needs of students who may need this extra support. This year, we have implemented Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) into our Traditional Program.  This program helps prepare students for college eligibility who may otherwise fall short of their potential. For students who do not live within Morey's attendance area, admisso=ion into the traditional progam requires completion of a Choice form with DPS.
