METROLINA THEATRE ASSOCIATION
will host

3rd annual UNIFIED AUDITIONS and Design/Tech Interviews

Saturday, July 18 at ImaginOn, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

How to Audition’ workshop offered Saturday, June 20 at Actor’s Theater

May 20, 2009 - The Metrolina Theatre Association will host 2009 Unified Auditions on Saturday, July 18 from 10 am to 6 pm at ImaginOn, home of Children’s Theatre of Charlotte, located at 300 E. 7th Street in uptown Charlotte, NC 28202.

Actors 18 years of age or older who will be available during the 2009-10 theatre season will have the opportunity to audition for several local, regional, professional, semi-professional and community theatre companies, as well as independent theatre producers. The auditions will be held from 10 am – 6 pm in the Wachovia Playhouse at ImaginOn. Designers and theater technicians, including stage managers, will also have an opportunity to showcase portfolios and distribute resumes to interested companies and prospective collaborators at a lunchtime session from 1 pm – 2 pm.

There is no cost for actors to audition or for designers and technicians to participate in the technical showcase, although artists will need to complete a registration form and mail the form plus a copy of their headshot and resume – registration will take place June 1 - July 3, 2009. Get additional details and download Registration forms at the MTA website: www.metrolinatheatre.org

Companies, producers and casting agencies who wish to participate are invited to register June 1 - July 3, 2009 and pay a $35 fee to cover administrative costs for the event. Membership in Metrolina Theatre Association is not required for either auditionees or viewing companies.

MTA is pleased to be able to organize the Unified Auditions for the region for the third year in a row,” said MTA President Lydia Arnold. ”The unified audition process is a great opportunity for actors and artists to be seen by a number of companies, producers, and directors at once, and in turn, those companies are able to take home their impressions of more than 100 actors and artists in a single day. It’s cost effective, efficient, and fun! I encourage everyone who supports regional theater to come out and participate – as an auditioning actor, as a viewing company, or as a volunteer.”

MTA volunteers Anne Lambert, Christie Kahil and Marika Metting are coordinating the efforts for MTA. Children's Theatre of Charlotte is supporting the event by hosting the auditions at ImaginOn. Actor’s Theater of Charlotte is host to the FREE ‘How to Audition’ workshop on June 20.

ACTORS:

Actors should prepare a monologue (or contrasting monologues). Singers may bring music to sing 16 bars of a song; an accompanist will be provided. Total audition time is 90 seconds. Actors are asked to submit a registration form along with one copy of their headshot and resume. Both Equity and non-Equity actors are invited to attend. Ethnically diverse actors are especially encouraged to attend. For more information about the auditions, download the ‘General Information’ document from the MTA website, or send e-mail to mtaunifiedauditions@gmail.com with ‘Unified Auditions’ in the subject line.

HOW TO AUDITION WORKSHOP:

Want to be at your best on the day of the Unified Auditions? MTA will hold a FREE ‘How To Audition’ Workshop to be held at Actor’s Theatre on Saturday, June 20 from 1 pm – 3 pm. The workshop will be facilitated by Anne Lambert, Scott Pacitti and other area directors. Actors will have the opportunity to ask questions and practice their audition pieces; the facilitators will offer suggestions, critiques and audition tips to actors and area newcomers who may not have previously experienced a Unified process. Registration is free. To sign up for the HTA workshop or for more information, send e-mail to mtaunifiedauditions@gmail.com with “How To Audition workshop” in the subject line.

COMPANIES:

Companies, producers, and casting directors interested in viewing auditions should register and pay a $35 fee to cover copying and venue costs. The fee includes 2 registrants and 1 set of headshots and resumes; additional registrants are $5 each; additional headshot/resume packages are $25. For more information send e-mail to mtaunifiedauditions@gmail.com with “Company Registration” in the subject line.

LUNCH:

Due to our limited budget, lunch will not be included in the registration fee, but we are working hard to find a nominally priced solution.  There will be an option for ordering lunch - details to follow.

TECHNICAL SHOWCASE:

Designers, puppeteers, stage managers, acting teachers – If you work behind the scenes and want Charlotte’s theater companies to know about you, this is the one-stop shop for you. During the lunch break, the companies will have the opportunity to meet you, to review portfolios and ask questions. For more information send e-mail to mtaunifiedauditions@gmail.com with “Technical Showcase” in the subject line. Or go to the MTA website and download the registration form.
