Capcom to Release Highly Anticipated “Devil May Cry 4” on Sony’s Playstation 3 Platform
Note to media: Multimedia assets available
CALIFORNIA—(Newswire)—Feb. 07, 2008—Japan’s leading interactive entertainment developer, Capcom Co. Ltd., will release the fourth installment of its flagship video game series “Devil May Cry” on Sony’s Playstation 3 platform. This comes almost five years after the debut of the commercially and critically successful “Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening” in 2003. “‘Devil May Cry’” fans have been waiting patiently for this latest installment for several years now,” said Mark Beaumont, vice president of Capcom U.S.A., Inc. “And we believe the latest edition of 'Devil May Cry' will fully meet both the media’s and public’s high expectations.”
The early response from critics and fans to online “Devil May Cry” game demos has been flattering to say the least. Major gaming websites, such as www.gamespy.net and www.gamespot.com, have given the new “Devil May Cry” ratings of 9 out of ten, and 4.5 out of 5 respectively. Gamespot.com has also compiled a host of independent reviews and blogs that can be viewed at www.gamespot.com/reviews/dmc4.
The “Devil May Cry” game development team boasts the latest version has more stylized and fluid combat experiences, and a richer graphic experience. New weapons, including the Force Edge and Alastor Swords have been introduced, which are sure to focus the gaming experience of “Devil May Cry 4” on more hand to hand combat simulations than previous installments. There is also less download time between game stages, which will certainly please the many fans who were upset by the periods of extensive downloads in “Devil May Cry 3.” A full description of the new “Devil May Cry” can be found at www.capcom.com/dmc4.
Capcom was first founded in Japan in 1979 before creating a North American division in 1985. It is most well-known for its mega-hit “Street Fighter” game franchise in the early to mid 1990s, and most recently the critically acclaimed “Resident Evil” game franchise. In recent years, Capcom has expanded to the television and movie market by releasing several movies and television series based on Capcom game concepts. In fact, an animated Devil May Cry television series is in production. Previews and reviews of Capcom television and film entertainment can be found at www.capcom.com/multimedia.
This game release is also sure to boost Sony’s Playstation 3 sales, which have been outperformed by the XBOX 360. “This is the first ‘Devil May Cry’ game that we’ve released on the Playstation 3 console, and we hope that it can become a flagship game like the ‘Halo’ franchise has been for the XBOX,” according to Sony president Ken Kutagari. Sony has been offering free online demos of Devil May Cry 4 at www.sony.com/playstion/dmc4/demo. The page also includes a blog discussion forum, video previews and links to other reviews of Devil May Cry 4.
