Finding the Right Site for School
Objective
In this lesson, students will locate several (at least 4) educational websites that have been identified as useful and relevant to them as well as to their classmates and school. The idea is to develop and maintain a collection of student-identified sites to act as a virtual library of Internet resources.
Process
-
Students should log in with their own credentials to the SLCS Wiki (http://slcs.pbwiki.com)
-
Students will create a new Wiki page and name it "First Name - Last Initial - Ed Sites" (i.e. John M - Ed Sites). Make sure the page gets tagged "edhelpsites" (no quotes).
-
Students will then begin researching websites and activities that are relevant to education and specifically their coursework. Particular notice should be payed to websites with interactive activities.
-
Once a site or activity is identified, students will post it to their wiki page and will add the following information:
-
Name of the site or activity
-
URL of the site (web address) that is a click-able link.
-
Target audience of the site - which ages/grades would best be suited for this site or activity
-
Short description (2-3 complete sentences) that gives the reader specific information as to the purpose of the site or activity
Play this online game by answering math problems and try to beat the clock. Choose multiplication as the operation, then pick a high and low number and begin. Appropriate for Grades 3-5.
-
Tip: Locate sites that you could benefit from. If you have an academic area you could improve on, look for a website or online activity that would address it.
-
When you finish, visit other student pages and respectfully and constructively comment on their resources. Make suggestions if it is appropriate.
