Classical Conditioning (10 Points)
Below are scenarios that include a Conditioned Stimulus (CS), an Unconditioned Stimulus (UCS), a Conditioned Response (CR), and an Unconditioned Response (UCR). Your task is to read each scenario and identify the CS, the UCS, the CR and the UCR. Be as specific as possible in your answers. Type your answers in the table below each vignette.
1. After your first night in your dorm room, you wake up and take a shower. During your shower someone flushes a toilet and the shower becomes very hot and causes you to jump back, out of the stream of water. This happens every morning for the next few days. After one week, you jump back automatically after hearing the toilet flush, even before the water temperature changes.

2. Every time a certain female instructor enters the classroom, she goes straight to the chalkboard to write the lecture outline on it. Unfortunately, she has very long finger nails and each time she writes the outline, her nails screech on the chalkboard, making the students cringe. After a few lectures, students cringe at the sight of the teacher entering the classroom.

3. Lieutenant Sanders loves to eat fried chicken. One day he orders a bucket of the colonel’s original recipe that has e coli in it and he ends up vomiting for several hours that night. Luckily he recovers within a day, but now just the thought (or the sight/smell) of fried chicken makes Lt. Sanders nauseous.

4. Sara’s husband puts on Burberry Brit cologne every time they’re going to be sexually intimate. One day Sara meets her female friend Chrissie at the mall who is wearing Burberry Brit perfume and she becomes sexually aroused.

5. GSgt. Bush was driving his Humvee in Iraq when a roadside bomb that was disguised as a pile of rocks exploded, which caused him to panic (i.e., increased heart rate, sweating). Upon his return to the US his heart rate increases and he panics any time he sees a pile of rocks on the side of the road.
