Policy and Pledge of Academic Integrity
Dr. Bryan R. Burnham

Students at The University of Scranton are expected to adhere to the highest set of standards in their academic conduct, as described in the Academic Code of Honesty and as agreed to in the Honor Pledge. Honesty is integral to academic institutions like The University of Scranton, and academies rely on their members to adhere to common moral and ethical responsibilities in all aspects of scholarly activity. Thus, any act of academic dishonesty threatens the foundation upon which free, open, and liberal scholarship and debate is based.

As such, it is policy that all students enrolled in any course offered by Dr. Burnham support academic integrity in all aspects of their scholarly activity in and out of the classroom. Simply, this means students may not cheat, plagiarize others' work, have others complete assignments or papers for them, or offer false information in place of their own independent scholarly work. In addition, any student that suspects another member of The University of academic dishonesty is to inform Dr. Burnham of such concerns, who will take appropriate actions.

Students unsure of the meaning of academic honesty or what constitutes academically dishonest behavior should refer to The University of Scranton's Scholarly Research and Academic Integrity report, the University of Southern California's policy on academic honesty, and complete The University of Scranton's Research and Academic Integrity Tutorial. Students unfamiliar with what constitutes plagiarism or how to avoid plagiarizing should read this publication from the University of California-Davis, this pamphlet from the University of Indiana, and OWL at Purdue's tips on avoiding plagiarism.

Pledge of Academic Integrity

I have read and understand The University of Scranton's Academic Code of Honesty and understand and agree to Dr. Burnham's Policy for Academic Integrity. On my honor, I swear to never give, receive, nor tolerate others' use of unauthorized aid in completing assignments, projects, papers, reports, or examinations. I understand that non-adherence to this pledge will be constituted as a violation of academic honesty and will result in failure of the course  listed below and referral to the psychology department chairperson, the dean of the college of arts and sciences, and the dean of my college if other than CAS.
