[Text and Language Exercise]
I hate text messaging! I especially hate it when students substitute text message lingo for whole words in test answers. In my point of view: If a student does not take the time to write out what needs to be said, then I should not take the time to figure out what s/he wrote so as to evaluate their writing. What is interesting though: Human language evolved to allow efficient communication of complex ideas; hence, text message abbreviations may be one very annoying step in that evolutionary direction!
Okay, enough of my rant. This assignment will have you translate text message lingo into Standard English and translate Standard English into text message lingo. For each example below, type what you think the translation (conversion) should be for each given phrase. (Hint: Each example is related to psychology.) Some of the Standard English words and phrases have actual text message lingo and some will not, but if the lingo exists, it should be used.
I am looking for how well you thought about your answer, not so much about the accuracy of your answers (through that will be taken into account). Don’t just make stuff up, try to translate the lingo accurately, and try to figure out an efficient way to translate the Standard English via texting.
