Vietnam Poetry Presentation Project

Objectives:

• Students will research and analyze a poem or song which relates to the Vietnam War.
• Students will explain how poet uses literary devices to convey meaning.
• Students will identify and explain the tone of the poem.
• Students will identify and define any terms/names included in the poem.
• Students will connect poem with event/events which occurred during the time period.

Working with or without a partner, students will create PowerPoint presentation which:

• Presents lyrics to poem/song and paraphrases them
  
• Identifies and explains any specific terms or names which appear in song
• Identifies specific lyrics which express the tone of the poem
• Identifies and explains the use of at least two different literary devices
  
• Connects poem with some event which occurred during the time period

Presentation should have:

• Minimum of 7 slides
• At least two images
• a narration which does not simply read off the presentation

Rubric for presentation will be distributed at later date.

Project must be submitted in .ppt format or on Google Docs (shared with the teacher tom.varnum@gmail.com).  All presentations must be completed by Thursday, November 6, 2008.  Presentations will begin on that date.
