Isn't it Romantic?
Emily Dickinson Poetry Project – Honors Grade 11, Spring 2008
You will become an expert on one of the poems (p. 374-393) from Emily Dickinson. To demonstrate your expertise, you will create and present a computer presentation on the poem.
Each student must choose a unique poem. All students will be expected to read all poems and take notes on the presentations.
Assignment
Create a computer (i.e. PowerPoint) presentation from one of the poems you have studied. Your presentation must include:
- At least two slides about the poet (including a photo)
- A slide with a general overview of the poem including type, speaker, rhyme scheme, etc.
- One slide per stanza with a summary of the lines (explain what the poet is saying)
- At least three slides which point out at least three literary devices and explains their purpose in the poem.
- At least three slides which explain how the poem demonstrates elements of Romanticism.
- At least two slides with two multiple choice questions on your poem which may make up part of the quiz on this unit. These questions should focus on the use of literary devices, identification of speaker, interpretation of lines, etc.
You may use outside sources to help with your presentation, but they must be cited properly (works cited page).
For your presentation, you will introduce the poem with the slides about the poet and the general overview slides. Following that, you will read the poem to the class. After the reading, you will continue with your slide show.
Following the presentations, students will be quizzed on all poems presented. Some of the questions created by the presenters will be used. The quiz will be open note and open book.
Timeline
- Select poem and create line by line translation (into your words) of your poem.
- Read and review all poems selected by the class.
