Below is the feedback I received from my group. Their feedback helped bring to mind ideas which would enhance my ‘Cyberbullying’ web presences. I made several corrections based on the group’s feedback. I also ran into the contradictions, which was alluded to in the McCloud’s 6-steps under user testing. My response to these contradictions was to go with my preference since it was indeed my big project. In taking a look at my preferences it is amazing how my first ideas again were the ones I went with, which is in accordance to Gardner’s theory on learning. It also backs up my reputation of being a one-take wonder.

Overall impressions of the website progress

Looks like you have a good amount of the website complete. Student activities still to come.

Specific criticisms and praises

  1. Nice color choice and simple, but effective stop sign logo.

  2. The "cyber bullying presentation" link at the top of the left nav bar seems like it should be flush left like the rest of that column.

  3. Videos are great, engaging, get point across.

  4. "Cain over powered his weaker young brother Abel and killed him." should be "saw Cain overpower his weaker, younger brother, Abel, and kill him."

Suggestions for improvement

-Cyber bullying brochures are good and important; maybe make the link to them more prominent.

-The "What is Cyber bullying" in the right column gives a nice purpose to the site. I would suggest playing around with the font, maybe see what a serif font looks like, a different color, make it in italics.

  1. The layout of the site is nice. Clean and open. Good lines and nice look.

  2. The graphic, which looks original, links to http://bfmason.googlepages.com/stopcb.gif/stopcb-full;init:.gif It would be better to either not have a link or link it to something which has a purpose. If you’re having an issue with inserting the graphic, you could always make the graphic and the horizontal lines all a part of the graphic and just insert the entire thing at the top of the page. It’s just if it’s going to have a link – it should link to something.

  3. I like the quote along the right side. If I wanted to learn more about the author, could his name be a hyperlink to the site where the quote came from? Dan Olweus: Bullying Prevention Program Author; "Bullying At School" or something similar.

  4. In this day of being able to embed YouTube videos, I recommend that when we can, we embed a video into our website. The more we can keep a user within our web site boundaries, the more likely they won’t get lost exploring other things. I would suggest you create a page with the YouTube videos all embedded on the single page and users could just go to that page. Having a user leave your page to go to YouTube to watch a video, then need to know that they must click the back button, is not a recommended design. Another option is that in YouTube you can create your own Channel or Playlist. You can embed the playlist and just the videos you’ve selected for cyberbullying are listed in thumbnail view and users can click on the videos they want to view.

  5. The NCPC.org link on the lower left goes to http://bfmason.googlepages.com/hangon.gif/hangon-full;init:.gif Is this where you want it to go?

  6. The link http://bfmason.googlepages.com/cyberbullying_brochure1 provides some good information and links. However, it should be in .pdf and not .jpg. A .jpg is not the right file type for a brochure which a user is to download and print. I’ve opened it and done a print preview and the printed quality would be poor. There are free .pdf printer drivers and websites which will convert files to .pdf for free. This should be in .pdf.

I like the way it is formatted- it's easy to read with the three columns, especially with the blue on the right. There were a couple of things I thought might be links but were not (Student / Activities link- next to the pink picture)

I like the heading and the graphic at the top- it really tells you what the site is all about in a matter of a second or two.

I think with the column on the right- you might consider something else here. You explain cyberbullying in your presentation which works. I can understand you would want to touch on it on the homepage as well, but the quote is quite long. Can you do bullet points here? Or maybe a quote and the outline what it is somewhere else on the page?
