Dear Families:

Our class will be exploring a new technology and how it can help us in the classroom! Specifically, we’ll be using ePals SchoolMail ™. In our class, I’ll be asking students to correspond online with their classmates, other students in our school district, and possibly students from all around the world. There are many benefits to using this technology, especially since it allows students to collaborate with others!

We will learn about what is appropriate and what is not appropriate for online communication, and your student’s work will be monitored closely by me to ensure his/her safety and privacy is protected. Below you will find specific terms and conditions students will be expected to follow when using this technology:

  1. Students are expected to act safely when emailing by NOT including personal information in any emails. You agree to NOT give out your family name, phone number, or any other personal information that could help someone locate or contact you in person. You may share your interest, ideas and preferences.

  2. Students are expected to keep their user name and password private and only share them with their parents or teachers. You agree to never log in as another student.

  3. Students are expected to treat email as a classroom space. You are expected to conduct yourself in a manner that reflects well on the school you are representing. If it’s not appropriate to say in class, you shouldn’t say it in an email.

  4. Students are expected to report any email that is inappropriate to the teacher immediately. Do not respond to the inappropriate email.

  5. SchoolMail ™ is considered a virtual extension of our classroom, and therefore all school, district, and U.S. federal rules and regulations apply.

  6. Students who don’t abide by these terms and conditions may lose their opportunity to take part in this project and may be referred to the school administration.

In order to participate in this project, I am asking for both parent and student signatures. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at ……………. Or by e-mailing me at …………….

Thanks,
