Chunky Button Hat
Materials:
Size US15 (10mm) needles
Super chunky yarn (70m, 50g)
Needle
Scrap yarn (to sew on buttons)
Ridiculously huge button, some smaller buttons, or some contrasting yarns to embellish your hat (like lazy daisies and french knots)

Gauge:
2 Sts & 3.5 Rows = 1 inch

Ear flaps (make 2):
CO 2 Sts leaving a long tail (for the tassles)
R1: K2, turn
R2 and all other even rows: Purl across, turn
R3: K1, M2, K1, turn
R5: K1, M1, K2, M1, K1, turn
R7:
K1, M1, K4, M1, K1, turn
R9: K1, M1, K6, M1, K1, turn
R11: K1, M1, K8, M1, K1, turn
Each ear flap should have 12 sts

Body:
With purl side facing, cast on 10 stitches (using knitting cast on), turn and knit the next 12 stitches (2nd ear flap), turn, cast on 6 more stitches and join. (40 stitches total)
Knit in stockinette stitch until hat measures 6-6.5"

Shaping the Top:
R1: *K2tog, K6, SSK* around (Should be repeated 4 times around)
R2 and all other even rnds: Knit around
R3: *K2tog, K4, SSK* around
R5: *K2tog, K2, SSK* around
R7: *K2tog, SSK* around
Cut yarn, pull through remaining 8 sts, pull tight and weave in (unless you want to make a pom-pom bobble thing :) )

Finishing:
Weave in all ends.
Cut 2 pieces of yarn twice as long as you want your tassles to be. Attach one to each ear flap (after folding in half) and braid to the bottom. Sew on your ridiculously huge button and other embellishments. Also, you can sew or crochet an edge with contrasting yarn for a cute border.
