- Introduction to CONTENTdm
- Collection management system
- Allows users to organize digital collections and publish them on the Internet viz computer software
- CONTENTdm Server
- Web-based edition - application accessed online
- Acquisition edition - end-user software client
- Logging into CONTENTdm
- Login parts
- Your "class id" number, assigned: 3034
- Your "group id" number, assigned by instructor, in the range of 01 - 24 (two-digits)
- Your password is assigned by the instructor (Professor Furner)
- Logging in
- Type the web address into your browser: http://class3034.contentdmdemo.com/cgi-bin/admin/start.exe
- At login box,
- login id: 3034userxx - where 'xx' is your "group id" number (two-digits)
- your assigned password
- Main sections (Tabs) of CONTENTdm Collection Administration interface - featured sections only
- admin home - welcome message and section overview
- server - instructor (administrator) use only
- collections - capabilities to configure collections, edit field properties (including setting full text searching and creating controlled vocabulary), enable full resolution support, view collection reports, and export data.
- items - capabilities to add, approve, edit, lock/unlock, and index items
- Collections tab - featured properties only
- Configuration property - featured functions only:
- Renaming your collection
- Publishing or de-publishing your collection
- Describing your collection

- Fields property
- Preset fields are routed to Dublin Core (DC) fields
- Deleting and moving fields
- Adding and/or editing fields
- Re-map DC field
- Change data type
- Text - least restrictive field
- Date - date input (numbers only)
- Full text search - a compound object (such as PDF files) can be added and searched
- Only one field can be used as full text search PER collection

- View collection - opens a new window showing you what the collection looks like at the end-user (Web visitor) side

- Items tab - featured actions only
- Add
- Adding an item or URL
- Metadata entry
- Thumbnail
- Go to Approve, then remember to index
- Approve
- Review pending items (Edits entry)
- File names - leave on default option ("Generate a unique file name")
- After approving items, remember to index
- Index
- Index all items whenever items are added and approved, or when an item's metadata entry is changed
- Just click-n-go
- Edit
- Make changes to existing metadata fields's content
- To make changes to your existing metadata fields, go to Collections tab --> Fields property
- TIP: To display all indexed items, click 'browse collection'
- After editing an entry, remember to index
- Find & Replace
- A single field - allows changes to occur in one field only
- Across all fields - disregards what field is affected when making changes
- Change field metadata - *USE WITH CAUTION* - changes all field's content without any "undo" capabilities

- advanced search - search all or specific collections for specific metadata content
- preferences - display preferences for your own viewing experience
- my favorites - view, compare, delete and move collection items you have saved to My Favorites within CONTENTdm
- about - learn more information about this collection.
- help - detailed information on how to use specific features
- Browse
- Default collection displayed is the first collection ("Sample UV Photo Collection") shown on the list
- Click the drop-down list, then click on a specific collection, and click 'go'
- Sort fields by clicking on the metadata field name
- Click on a specific item for detailed item description with JPEG2000 extension view (with applicable items)
- Advanced search
- Search fields
- Selecting collections for search
