Description
This topic gets the children to explore how shadows are created. They investigate in Science how shadows can be altered by changing the position of a light source. The children can use their knowledge about shadows to design and make a shadow puppet theatre. They can also develop sound effects for their puppet show in music and explore movements for the puppets in PE.
The children would complete activities before VC link in which they would show their puppet show and present their project.
Activities could include – making a sun dial to explore the movement of sun.
Investigate how light sources affect the shadow.
Children could then create puppets/theatre etc.
Creating music to accompany their show.
VC – Children present their project, then show their puppet show. During the conference children could go outside to demonstrate their shadow at that particular time.
Learner Outcomes
To develop understanding concerning light sources and how they affect our shadows.
To develop movements in PE to use within the character movements.
To compose their own piece of music.
Time
The actual project could take a week. Only 1 video conference would be needed to present the puppet show and conduct Q & A session.
Preparation
Children would need to complete a full investigation through science, music and PE.
