Subject Area: Drama/History/Literacy (speaking and listening)
Intended Grade Level: Junior (7-11)
Description
This is to encourage development of speaking and listening and history skills. Both teachers swap names of a famous person that they have been learning about or somebody famous in that country (e.g Churchill, Florence Nightingale, President Roosevelt). Names of the famous people could be sent by email or on a power point. Before video link, classes would have to research independently and organise how they are going to present the other countries person. When linking with the country, each class use props and clues to give some information about the person (in groups, individually or as a whole class) Some children could even dress up and act out the person.
Both classes are given time to work out/research the famous person.
Classes then connect via video conference to exchange answers and reveal their famous people. Plenary could be strategies for research, prior knowledge and if possible out-takes or photos of the children working/acting for a more fun and informal aspect.
Learner Outcomes
Children would be come more aware of history in other cultures and consolidate knowledge of their own learning.
