Introductions of the Board members
Treasurer’s report
Spirit wear brought in $696; Marquee $40; Membership $1075; Movie Night $862. PTA paid out $903.34.
Admin Report
Mr. Torrington presented on the technology at WES. Elmos project solid objects. We have one for the Science lab. New Type to Learn program. Wireless keyboards in each classroom. Netbooks (Dell Latitude 2100) to be used throughout the day. Children can use audio/video responses to classroom activities. Children can write and edit their own stories and publish their works. Netbooks have webcams. Goal is to have a netbook for each child. Fundraisers for increasing the numbers of Netbooks in school.

School building opens at 9:00 am and closes at 4:00 pm. Parents can not be in the building without a specified meeting outside these hours.
Teacher’s report
Luncheon for teachers before the students started back was wonderful. The teachers really appreciated the lunch from Dusenberg’s.
Behavior committee – star chart in each classroom (green, yellow and red). Children can move up and down on the chart based on behavior and completing work. First reward was watching and episode of Phineas and Ferb for September. Need to get green or blue 80% of the time on their calendar. End of quarter – pep rally for the quarter rewards. This year get silver necklace stars each quarter. Attendance reward to be determined. Dance party in October.
Please contact the teachers first if you have any questions, concerns or problems to keep the lines of communication open. Interims were sent home this past week or today.
Conferences to be scheduled at the end of the quarter.
President’s Report
Thanks for signing up for constant contact (340 people so far). Go to homepage and add your email address to sign up. If you want to send out a constant contact, please send to Mrs. DeCrispino first.
Destination Imagination will meet this week. State representative is to come to talk at the meeting.
Stars of the month – Ginger and Julie. Thank you for all the work with the FLES program.
Halloween parade will be held at 2:30 on Friday, October 30. No masks or weapons.
All committee chairs are full except for the Picture Parent.

Committee Reports
Innisbrook – went really well. Did well, better than last year ($15,000).
Brenda will try to find another fundraiser that has more variety (Sally Foster, MidAtlantic)
Spirit Wear – Selling WES logo items. Goal is to sell the excess inventory and raise money for PTA. Fall items to come out with basics – hoodies, t-shirts, polo shirts, shorts, sweatshirts, lounge pants, knit caps, underarmour type of shirts. Send in new ideas.
School Rewards

Rising Stars group – Thursday night presentation with last year’s performance. 7:00 pm WES in library classroom.

Membership
Envelopes went home last week. Send them in to the teacher. 150 parents 20 teachers and staff. Incentive for classroom with highest percentage participating.
Communications
Send out the weekly star watch. Send Jennifer Wilhelm any submissions for the newsletter. Request for a Spanish version. All families should receive the directory at the end of October.
Staff appreciation
Give teachers a gift card for their birthday. Cinco De Mayo is the theme for Teacher Appreciation Day.
Environmental
Nina will be chairing the committee. Meeting Wed 10/14 at 7:00. Make children more aware of recycling.
FLES
Ginger thanked the PTA for their assistance with coordinating FLES. Intro Chinese and Spanish. See Feliz or Ginger after the meeting if interested.

New Business
New fundraiser idea: school supply order in the spring for the following week. To be delivered at the Welcome Back Social. School receives a kickback of 8% per kit.
Parents concerned about the Holiday Gift Shop. Items are not high quality. Children want to spend a lot of money. Takes place outside of the view of the parent.
Thursday is Read for the Record. Students will read The Very Hungry Caterpillar along with many of children around the world. Alison Butlien uses this as an opportunity to teach the children to use reference books. Goal is to raise money for early literacy. Will come home with a sticker that they READ FOR THE RECORD. This sets a Guinness book of World Records record for most people reading the same book on the same day.
Homework passes given for all parents attending the meeting tonight.
