Following James Baldwin’s “Notes of a Native Son,” write an essay (approximately five pages in length) that addresses your community’s (or communities') influence on your identity. This essay must reproduce Baldwin’s modulation of narration and analysis, argumentation and exposition, and general and specific observation.  In addition, this essay may employ any other strategies at play in "Notes of a Native Son" including, but not limited to, dialogue, biographical profile, anecdote, historical précis, and characterization. You may also wish to develop a character who serves as a foil for your reflections on your identity, in much the same manner that Baldwin reflects on his father's life. (This character does not have to be the negative force that Baldwin’s father is in “Notes of a Native Son.”)
