During this exercise, Joe asked the group to think about student learning and how it looks across different school environments and scenarios.
In the top row, we would see a student that was learning in a traditional classroom setting with a traditional curriculum. That student would be assessed through traditional methods such as a standardized test and scoring would be done in a way that was measurable.
Other rows illustrate different types of scenarios with the third row being our goal in this initiative. The student is engaged in an uncommon (non- traditional), highly personalized learning experience, with a performance based assessment. The way in which the student is scored or graded is a common method applied to all students. This is what we strive for - moving away from traditional, “one size fits all” learning models and assessments and toward more personalized settings.
