Breathing Prayer for Sunday, July 27

“Sighs to deep for words”

based on Romans 8:26-27

+ Find a comfortable place in the sanctuary or elsewhere

+ Take ten slow, deep breaths to center yourself and begin your prayer time

+ Keep breathing and read Romans 8:26-27

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

+ Take another ten slow, deep breaths

+  Read the passage again, breathing in or out each time you read the word “Spirit.”  (This word could also be translated “breath”). Repeat a few times.

+ Spend some time taking slow deep breaths. Breathe out your weakness, your suffering, your unspeakable prayers, your sighs.  Breathe in the Spirit— the very breath—of God.
