Aloha,

Thank you so much for the success of our potluck social.  The food was delicious.  I neglected to announce that Julio and Elaine donated all the sodas and juice and Lea Twigg for the center pieces, table cloth, and gift basket for Mike and Marcia.  Thanks to Collados taking pictures along with David Twigg.  Everyone was a big help in setting up and cleaning up.  Kudos to Craig and Nadine Abing for spending most of the evening registering people for the next quarter.

Next week Tuesday at the school where we have our dance lessons, we'll start practicing for dance routine.  Theo and Diane will be our instructors.  We'll be doing the east coast swing to a Michael Jackson song....fun, fun, fun...   The following people have signed up for the routine:

Leilani and Bill
Ligaya and Craig
Colleen and Terry
Amy and Ben
Nancy and Vic
Pat and Jody
Lea and Dave
Nadine and Craig

You can still join the routine.  Just show up next week at 7 pm.  Much mahalos for those who already signed up.

Hi There!

Please read following message from our HBDA dance director.

Mahalo
Vic Canubida

Aloha Everyone,

Telemark Ball is a fundraiser in support of the HBDA instructors, rotating, senior and junior instructors. Proceeds from the ticket sales will fund the administrative and educational costs for maintaining our all-volunteer staff of instructors. Please impress upon your chapter members the fact that HBDA's instructors are all non-salaried volunteers. It is for this reason that students in our organization are able to enjoy quality ballroom dance instruction at a fraction of what is normally charged elsewhere. HBDA would not be the affordable educational institution that we are were it not for the selfless volunteerism of our instructors. HBDA's instructors are the backbone of our organization. We certainly hope you will make every effort to sell all the tickets that were distributed to your chapter. If students cannot attend, please encourage them to make a worthwhile donation.

Please inform your chapter members that a bento is included with pre-sale tickets purchased by Sunday, March 1, 2009. Tickets purchased at the door are the same price but do not include a bento. The "bentos" will be served 5:30pm - 7:00pm, and pre-sale ticket holders must pick up their bentos during that time. Any leftovers after 7:00pm will be offered to those who paid at the door. Doors will open early for General dancing at 5:30pm, Music by DJ Henry Lee. Reminder: No food or drinks in the ballroom area.

Happy New Year Everyone!!!

Hope everyone is starting off on the right foot.  Just a quick reminder that we are the assisting chapter on the above dates.  On Jan. 3 we are responsible for manning the reception table from 7:30 to 8:30 pm and on Jan. 16 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm.  So, if we have a lot of people helping, we can split the shift.  Nancy and I will definitely be there.  Please let me know if you can help out.

"At the December 12, 2008 Council meeting, the following slate of officers was presented by the Nominating Committee and approved by the Council.  The Council-approved candidates are:
  • President Eric Tiwanak
  • Vice President Shirley Ota
  • Recording Secretary Jan Matsuura
  • Corresponding Secretary Karen Kotake
  • Treasurer John Kotake
  • Assistant Treasurer Diane Ramos
  • Auditor Wilbert Sakamoto
  • Assistant Auditor Danny Carreon
Petitions by other individuals interested in the offices of President, Corresponding Secretary, and Assistant Treasurer were filed on December 22, 2008 but have not yet been presented to the HBDA Council.

The Dance Director, who is responsible for HBDA's dance program, has directed that no politicking be conducted by anyone at the January 3 Ohana Night Palladium dance, out of fairness to and respect for the election process and for the attendees who are there to dance.  Please inform all chapter members to kindly abide by this request."

Aloha,

On Sept 6th we have been designated as the Lead Host Chapter.  We will need at least 10 people to do it right but the more help we have the faster and better things will get done.  We need to be there at 5 pm to set up and also have kitchen duties so please Kokua!  Please let me know if you'll be able to help.  Don't worry, you can dance between chores.

Aloha,

HBDA Bldg Fund committee are looking for volunteers to work at precincts during the primary and general elections.  All proceeds will help the building fund.  If you are interested in helping, please let me know and I will forward your names, etc. to Shirley Ota.  Please read attachment from Shirley on training, etc.

Subject: HBDA Bldg Fund - Hawaii State Election Info

Dear Presidents,

The primary and general election will be upon us very soon and our classes will
be ending shortly, too.  Our next council meeting is on Friday, June 13th so I
decided to send this out now.

All proceeds will help the HBDA Building Fund.  Each participant will need to
attend classes (short) respectively for your volunteer work.

Instead of having a class for HBDA members only, I decided because of time
constraints that it would be much easieer to go to a school closer to your home.

Presidents, I need your kokua.  Please re-submit the names again with their
e-mail addresses, phone numbers both home and cell and residence addresses.
They need to be a (1) U S citizen and (2) Hawaii residents and presently a voter.

I am sending you the calendar and a brief synopsis of the 3 different areas of
volunteering.

Once you submit me the names and phone numbers and email, I will contact
them individually and give them the correct contact number to register for the
class.  Please do this ASAP because the calendar of classes are fillng up
fast.  Let's make this a successful fundraiser.  You will be proud of youself.
If you have any questions, please email or call me.

Please pass this on to your instructors, too.

Mahalo for your kokua,        Shirley Ota,   Building Fund Committee

Aloha,

I apologize for the cancellation of tonight's dance class.  Due to a unfortunate circumstance, the key for school was not picked up.  I've contacted the director of HBDA as to how this should be handled and will let you know of their decision.  We will have classes next week as scheduled.

Also, I'd like to remind you of the Kokua Aikane Fundraiser at the Palladium on June 7th, $5 per person.  If you are plannig to attend, please call or email Lea Twigg for a head count.  We need to get the count in by this Thursday.  Call her at 668-9725 or 699-3303, email her at leatavita@hawaii.rr.com.

Again, I apologized about tonight.

Aloha!!

We wish to invite you to participate in our Mililani Chapter dance routine.  We'll be doing the Mambo!!  It's an easy and fun dance to learn.  You'll be taught how to dance it so don't worry if you haven't danced it before.  The routine will be choreographed and instructed by Esmenio and Roselily Andres (our current Tuesday night instructors).  Lessons are free so don't miss out on it.   The only cost would be for the customs which you will decide on and the cost of tickets for the anniversary ball of which you'll be performing at.   Practices will be held on Sunday evenings.  The exact time has not yet been determined.  We'll probably start on the Sunday, 4/27

You will be performing at the big event which is the HAWAII BALLROOM DANCE ASSOC. 49th ANNIVERSARY BALL to be held at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Coral Ballroom on August 16, 2008.  Invite your family, relatives, and friends and show off your moves!  All the other chapters will be performing also....Fun!!

Please email me if you wish to participate in this fun and wonderful event.  It will be great if we can get between 6 to 14 couples.  Don't hesitate to reply to me if you have any questions.
