TEACHER OF THE YEAR AND VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR!

Pleae join me in congratulating Mrs. Deanna Feagin, one of our second grade teachers, who was selected by our faculty as this year’s W.W. Irby representative for Teacher of the Year! We would also like to extend our congratulations to Mrs. Caron Rowe, our PTA President, who was selected as our Volunteer of the Year. We thank both of these wonderful ladies for their years of dedication to our students and school.

ACCELERATED READING  (AR Program)

We are thrilled to share that our AR program is up and running! The program is now web based with over 160,000 quizzes available on the site. This program is designed to be a motivational program to encourage children to read and increase their comprehension. Students earn points through a short computerized test and are eligible for weekly AR prizes and recognition on our morning announcements.

SAFETY REMINDER

Please help us keep our children safe by following the directions of staff members who are on car/bus duty each day. Every procedure and policy that is in place is to help ensure the safety of our children, faculty, staff, and visitors. Parents are strongly encouraged to remain in cars and follow car pick up procedures.  Car pick up is typically a 15 minute process beginning at 1:45 p.m.  Please note that double parking in the parking lot is strictly prohibited for any amount of time. For safety reasons--- If the double parking issue continues, it will require us to lock the gate into the parking lot every day beginning at 1:30 p.m.   We thank you in advance for adhering to these procedures when picking up your child.

PENNIES FOR PILGRIMS
As Thanksgiving approaches, we are aware that we have much to appreciate.  Beginning Monday, 11/2 students are encouraged to bring in pennies (and other change) for our “Pennies for Pilgrims” program. Donations are used to help families during this holiday season. We are having a contest to see which classroom brings in the most coins.  Friday, November 23
st will be the last date of the contest. There will be a winning class per grade level.  We are also collecting Hitchcock “turkey feathers” again this year.  For every $50.00 you spend now until 11/17, Hitchcocks will give you a turkey feather (it looks like a receipt). For every 8 feathers we collect, we receive a $10.00 certificate to Hitchcocks. We use these certificates to help support families. Thank you for your participation and support.

WALKING CLUB

A huge thank you to Mr. Tony DiFranco for his tireless dedication to our Irby Walking Program.  It is off to a great start! J A note of thanks too to Coach Crone, Mrs. Pricher, and all the teachers and parents who make this worthwhile program possible.  Walking Club is open to any child K through 2 and to any parent who would like to volunteer.
