A Word from the Pastor

Dear Friends in Faith,

We await the Christ child, the Prince of Peace. We await in Hope and in Faith. Blessings to you and yours this Advent Season.

Peace and all good, Pastor Deborah

Brainstorming

One of the most fun things for me to do is to brainstorm. I love it! The neat thing about brainstorming is that no idea is a bad one. Say it! Blurt it out! Then kick it around a bit and then what is valued will rise to the surface and what is unworthy of energy will sink to the bottom. As you have ideas about projects – whether concerts or sales or fun-raisers – please invite me along for the process. Believe me: I know that not all my ideas are good ones. Not everything I throw out is something that I, myself, would want to do. Throwing out ideas and watching them become an actual project is fun. I look forward to hearing from you about your ideas. Pastor Deborah

Missions

"Angels for All Ages"  Today is the last collecting day for holiday gifts for local children and the elderly.

"Warm Things"  Thanks to your gifts, LUCC was able to give to local missions, Focus on the Children (18 hats,

11 pairs of gloves, 12 scarves, 2 baby sweaters, 2 baby blankets,  2 children outfits, 24 pairs of socks and 2 winter coats) and to Catholic Charities (7 blankets, 7 adult sweaters/vets,  8 adult coats, 3 pairs of rubber shoe coverings).

"Parish Pantry" Thank you for your gifts last week.  We filled another grocery cart of goodies for the Livonia Area Food Pantry!  Next collection date is January 6, 2008, although your gifts of non-perishable items can be dropped off into the barrel or the grocery cart in the back hallway at any time.

Mission Survey is in process.

Last week surveys were passed out and some were returned already!  More forms are available today.  You can return your completed survey to the green box in the Central Office area or to the box in the dining room during Social Hour.  Congregational input is important to the Mission Committee and we hope that you will share your constructive thoughts with us.

Nominating Committee is hard at work!

At the initial meeting of the Nominating Committee there were a total of 27 slots in the 2008 slate of officers to be filled. The Committee has convened two times and has been busily calling people. They have successfully filled 17 slots of those original 27, including a full slate of officers! We still need Trustees and Deacons. If you have been asked to serve and are still considering it, please know that you will be trained, you will be supported, and most importantly you will not be left to do some difficult job alone! It is truly a case of the more, the better. Please see any member of the Nominating Committee (Carol Curtis, Mary Lou Spencer, Diane Dudek, Rachel Long, Janis Weaver, Council President Nancy Parker or Pastor Deborah) if you have questions or if you need more information. Listen to the way in which God is calling you to serve.

Poinsettias

Order forms are now available for Christmas poinsettias. Please remember what color you have ordered and take that color home with you on Christmas Eve. See Nancy Parker.

Christmas Carol Sing-a-long

Come early (10:20) during Advent and share in the singing of favorite songs

Order of Worship

In an effort to help people understand that the giving of our financial gifts was only a portion of the meaning of Stewardship, the actual offering was placed later in the service, after the children had been excused. We acknowledged the gifts of music, the gifts of personal reflection, and also mission prior to reaching for our wallets. Inadvertently, however, this meant that children were leaving the worship service without having a chance to put their money into the plate. It also meant that the children had an extended enrichment time. At the request of the Board of Education we are reordering the service so that the children can participate in this element of worship. Please keep in mind however that all that we are, all that we do is stewardship – not just the money part.

Prayer List

If you would like to have someone on our Prayer List please fill out a pew card (include your name) and put the card in the collection plate.

Let us pray for our families, World Leaders, those serving in the military, those who have served our country and have been wounded, those suffering from cancer, those recovering from operations, those recovering from trauma or accidents, those who suffer from alienation or ill-will, those who don’t have enough to eat, and those who need work. We also pray for Linda Wert, recently deployed for all those affected by the fires in California; the Wissler family (Maya is improving!), Dale Thompson (Marion’s nephew), Tom Smith, Kate Scanlan, Kim Sklenar, Barbara, Ruth, Deb
