A Word from the Pastor

Dear Friends in Faith,

I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because in you the Good News of Jesus Christ and the message of love for all of God’s creatures is loudly proclaimed. I want to express my deepest gratitude for your support last Sunday. I am overwhelmed by your love and by your faithfulness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. My ecumenical colleagues were incredibly supportive and the Holy Spirit was surely present in the sermon about Gratitude! Ah, yet another God-incident! Thank you for helping me to be a better person in Jesus Christ.

Peace and all good, Pastor Deborah

"Angel for All Ages."

One of the missions for the month is the Angel Tree. A basket under the Angel Tree contains angel tags that you can take to remind you that you are getting a gift for a child (from infants to teenagers.) Bring the gift to church by December 10th. Don't wrap the item. If it is a toy or other item that requires a battery(s), please include the battery(s). You may also donate wrapping paper.

Or the angel tags may be used for the elderly and shut-ins. Suggestions for gifts for them include writing paper, stamps, greeting cards, book marks, large print playing cards and books, and regular books. The Livonia Kiwanis Club will handle the sorting and distribution of the gifts.

The Mission Committee thanks you for your contributions to our annual "Warm Things."  We have a bounty to share with several different organizations here in Livingston County.

Today is Parish Pantry Sunday

The children will collect our gifts to fill the grocery cart again.  Please bring in gifts of non perishable food, paper or cleaning items.  The Livonia Food Pantry's needs are still very high.  The number of families requesting assistance continues to grow (an average of 25 families needing help each month) and the Pantry's resources remain strained.

Mission Survey is in process.

Last week surveys were passed out and some were returned already!  More forms are available today.  You can return your completed survey to the green box in the Central Office area or to the box in the dining room during Social Hour.  Congregational input is important to the Mission Committee and we hope that you will share your constructive thoughts with us.

Ecumenical Book Review

On Thursday, December 6, at 12 noon, The Ecumenical Book Review at Wadsworth Library will review the book, Einstein:  His Life and Universe by Walter Isaacson.  This is a biography of the entire life of a genius, his beginnings and his marriages. The book will be presented by SUNY Geneseo professor Christopher Leary.  The review begins at noon but people who wish may bring a sandwich for a light luncheon at 11:30.  Cookies and beverages will be provided by Saint Mary's RC Church.

Nominating Committee is hard at work!

At the initial meeting of the Nominating Committee there were a total of 27 slots in the 2008 slate of officers to be filled. The Committee has convened two times and has been busily calling people. They have successfully filled 12 slots of those original 27, including a full slate of officers! We still need Trustees and Deacons. If you have been asked to serve and are still considering it, please know that you will be trained, you will be supported, and most importantly you will not be left to do some difficult job alone! It is truly a case of the more, the better. Please see any member of the Nominating Committee (Carol Curtis, Mary Lou Spencer, Diane Dudek, Rachel Long, Janis Weaver, Council President Nancy Parker or Pastor Deborah) if you have questions or if you need more information. Listen to the way in which God is calling you to serve.

Poinsettias

Order forms are now available for Christmas poinsettias. Please remember what color you have ordered and take that color home with you on Christmas Eve. See Nancy Parker.

.Christmas Carol Sing-a-long

Come early (10:20) during Advent and share in the singing of favorite songs

Order of Worship

In an effort to help people understand that the giving of our financial gifts was only a portion of the meaning of Stewardship, the actual offering was placed later in the service, after the children had been excused. We acknowledged the gifts of music, the gifts of personal reflection, and also mission prior to reaching for our wallets. Inadvertently, however, this meant that children were leaving the worship service without having a chance to put their money into the plate. It also meant that the children had an extended enrichment time. At the request of the Board of Education we are reordering the service so that the children can participate in this element of worship. Please keep in mind however that all that we are, all that we do is stewardship – not just the money part.

Prayer List

If you would like to have someone on our Prayer List please fill out a pew card (include your name) and put the card in the collection plate.

Let us pray for our families, World Leaders, those serving in the military, those who have served our country and have been wounded, those suffering from cancer, those recovering from operations, those recovering from trauma or accidents, those who suffer from alienation or ill-will, those who don’t have enough to eat, and those who need work. We also pray for Linda Wert, recently deployed for all those affected by the fires in California; the Wissler family (Maya is improving!), Dale Thompson (Marion’s nephew), Tom Smith, Kate Scanlan, Kim Sklenar, Barbara, Ruth, Deb
