A Word from the Pastor

Dear Friends,

Today's scripture is about gratitude. How grateful are we? How much have we received? How much do we feel like we "deserve" what we have received? These are some questions to ponder in our fast-paced week ahead. I will be away on vacation next week. As always, you will remain in my prayers.

Blessings and Peace, Pastor Deborah

Livonia Area Parish Pantry

Many, many thanks for your overwhelming response to the need of the Livonia Area Food Pantry!!  Over the past five weeks, you have donated 5 grocery carts full of food and other non-perishable items, donated $592.10 cash, and have 7 new volunteers to help at the Food Pantry!  LUCC is making a big difference in many people's lives in our community.  The children will collect our gifts on Communion Sunday each month; however, there is a collection barrel in the back entrance of the church where you can place your non-perishable offerings throughout each month. If you wish to make a cash donation at any time, please use a pew envelope and write "Pantry" on it.

GOT SOUP?

The Women’s fellowship has decided to sell quarts of soup and (ready-to-bake) apple pies on November 10th. It will be eat-in or take out. A sign-up sheet will be going around so that you can sign up to help or purchase. In preparing for this event, WE NEED YOUR MASON QUART JARS!!! If you can donate jars, please bring them to the church OR talk to Bonnie Haller about having someone come get them.

The NEW Livonia Methodist Church

We are invited to participate in a community worship service on Sunday October 28 at 3:00pm 2:00pm. Please come!

Installation

The installation of the Rev. Kim Cran will take place Sunday, October 21st at 4 pm at the United Church of Warsaw. Your presence and prayers are requested to join in this service.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

This October, the Livingston County Department of Health and the Livingston County Coalition of Churches are teaming up to raise awareness about the importance of early detection of breast cancer. Area churches will distribute pink ribbons with information on the importance of early detection and the Women’s Health Partnership program to female congregation members. Mammograms offer the chance to detect tumors while they are small and can be more successfully treated. The Women’s Health Partnership can help women with little or no insurance obtain free or low cost mammograms and clinical breast exams. For more information on how to access cancer screening services through the Women’s Health Partnership, please contact the Livingston County Department of Health’s Women’s Health Center at 1-800-243-9240.

Free Kidney Health Check-up

The Pleasant Valley Baptist Church @ 4361 Lakeville Road is sponsoring a free kidney health check-up this Saturday, October 20th from 10 am to 1 pm. The check-up includes blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose checks for diabetes, also urine and blood tests for kidney disease. This is sponsored by the National Kidney Foundation of Upstate New York among other organizations.

Fall Roast Pork Dinner

The Lima Presbyterian Church (corner 15A and Route 5 & 20) is sponsoring a Roast Pork & Dressing Dinner on Saturday, November 3rd, from 4 to 7 pm. The prices are $9.00 for adults, $4.50 for children 5 to 12, and children under 5 are free.

Do You Have the Heart for Hospice?

If your compassionate heart leads you to help others, consider volunteering for Livingston County Hospice.

Hospice volunteers support patients and families by making visits and providing a few hours for caregivers to keep appointments, run errands, or just take a break. No special skills are required, just the heart for hospice.

Classes begin Thursday, October 11th at 9:30 to noon and continue weekly through Nov. 8th on the County Campus in Mt Morris. For more information call 243-7290.

Prayer List

If you would like to have someone on our Prayer List, please fill out a pew card, and include your name. You may then put the card in the collection plate.

Let us pray for our families, World Leaders, those serving in the military, those who have served our country and have been wounded, those suffering from cancer, those recovering from operations, those recovering from trauma or accidents, those who suffer from alienation or ill-will, those who don’t have enough to eat and those who need work.
