Lakeville United Church of Christ

Board of Trustees Report

Sept. 2007

On August 23, during a heavy rainstorm, a gust of wind knocked the tilted cross from the top of the church steeple onto the roof. Two of the wooden pieces fell to the pavement without doing any damage, and two pieces remain on the east side roof to be removed. This solves a problem that worried our committee for the past year: how to get up to the height of the steeple to remove the tilting cross.

Closer to the ground, the trustees and others have been busy working on the church property. The newly painted front and rear doors to the church have been painted in the historic blue color of a northeastern church. Thanks to Gayle and Gary Tiede and Sara Miller for brightening the doors of the church.

Did you know that in the back lot of the church we have a creek that drains the field to the west of church property? Les Scutt and Lance Parker have worked on improving the flow of this drainage channel last month. They also cleared out some of the trash that had accumulated over the past year from the back area. That pile of dirt that you will see out by the barbeque pit will be used to fill in the space along the edges of the driveways.

The Beautification Committee scheduled a workday for Saturday, Sept. 29th.

There will also be a church Clean-up Morning on a Saturday in October. After the Bargain Sale is finished, it will be a good time to spruce up the building and grounds for winter. We hope that many of you will join the group for a few hours of cleaning on that Saturday morning. Following the work session we will share a fellowship luncheon.
