Review Solo dell´Arte
Black Sea Theatre Festival - Turkey

Viva Carlos!!

The Tenth Anniversary of the Trabzon State Theatre-İnternitıonal Black sea Theatre Festival was a grand occasion that brought many brilliant companies together from Romania, France, Moldova, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Germany, Russian Federation, Turkey, Poland, Georgia, İsrael, Bulgaria and Kazahstan. And one of the highlights of the whole Festival was presented by Carlos Garcia Estevez from Spain.

Carlos charmed audiences with his Solo Dell’Arte and gave inspiration to budding actors and actresses in various Workshops.

In Solo Dell’Arte he introduced  a short history of  Commedia  dell´ Arte in a very fluent style, far from being proaic and  with help of his half  masks he showed us whole characters.

This evening was based on love stories of his own creation. Sometimes with charming mistakes in Turkish, he enriched our vocabulary. “Bogma Raki “, a famous Turkish annisette, became “Boomaraga” in his tongue. His body language and the way he used his voice were so rich and so subtle that he could easily change from a doddering old man to a dog like macho or a sexy strip-tease dancer. The stories were short and up to the point, and there was never a dull moment.

His  translator, the Turkish actor Sevki Cepa, was always alert and had a sense of humour. Sometimes the help of the audience to find the right words in Turkish was asked and the show became very interactive and was immensely enjoyed by the audience.

Carlos with his warm and modest personality became a favorıte among the participants of the Festival and his keen interest  in the Turkish  culture and folk arts were appreciated.
