Preparing for Battle
Write a page or two (typed, double spaced, times new roman, 12 pt) about preparing for a battle. Try to think of an event you prepared for for quite some time — a test, a quiz, a project, a game, a concert/recital, an argument, for example. How did you prepare? Why did you prepare? What did you learn about yourself in preparing? Think too about how your preparation compares with the preparation of Odysseus and Telemachus.
This writing is NOT about the battle, so do not include details of it. Remember to start in the moment, maybe with an anecdote, but don’t tell me you’re writing about a battle. Get to it.
Remember a few things:
Don’t kill the images with too many adjectives or adverbs.
Employ a variety of sentences, both long and short.
Effective paragraphing is a must.
