1. Watch Rocky preparing for battle.

2. Respond to 20. 7-18

3. Close look at Penelope's Despair

4. Recap and questions about the book.

Rough draft due on Thursday.

Write a page or two (typed, double spaced, times new roman, 12 pt) about preparing for a battle. Try to think of an event you prepared for for quite some time — a test, a quiz, a project, a game, a concert/recital, an argument, for example. How did you prepare? Why did you prepare? What did you learn about yourself in preparing? Think too about how your preparation compares with the preparation of Odysseus and Telemachus.

This writing is NOT about the battle, so do not include details of it. Remember to start in the moment, maybe with an anecdote, but don’t tell me you’re writing about a battle. Get to it.

Remember a few things:
1.    Don’t kill the images with too many adjectives or adverbs.
2.    Employ a variety of sentences, both long and short.
3.    Effective paragraphing is a must.

Write three effort goals. Remember, effort goals are things you have 100% control over. Example goals: I want to use semi-colons properly; I will proofread three times; I will not just summarize in my conclusion. These types of goals can be easily measured by you and me. "I worked hard" is not measurable because it is not specific. "I want an A" is out of your control.
