Everyone who uses L116/L121: NO FOOD ON THE COMPUTER WORKSTATIONS, INCLUDING DRINKS WITH LIDS.

Leave the food on a table up front, or on the counter in the L121 print room and eat there. Take a break.

We have not encountered objections to this… so far… provided that students don’t abuse the no-food-or-drink at the workstations policy, or fail to cooperate with Public Safety officials in the course of their duty.

The BCC Code of Conduct includes student responses to warnings from Public Safety officials. I’ve instructed Public Safety to report any infractions to me, we talk to the student, and if they continue to abuse the policy they lose their lab privileges. The reason I’ve asked them to do so is so that we can address the problem internally before anyone gets too deep in trouble.

So it’s necessary that students comply and provide their name, SID, and instructor. Please do not challenge the officers (or be caught again just after being warned, as happened last year). Part of the officer’s duty is enforcing the lab policy.

Students must comply with the officer’s request, and those who don’t cooperate can be asked to leave the lab.

As we get toward the end of the quarter and students begin “camping out” in the labs, it is even more important that they follow the rules. The consequence could include our department losing the 24/7 access we currently employ the last two weeks of class.

Be kind. Be careful. Be considerate.
