We are so excited you are coming to the NY Tango Festival!
Here is some information to help you with your stay.
Read below about
1. REGISTRATION STARTS THURSDAY
9-10pm in Lerner Hall Lobby (same building as all the classes milongas and practicas), will continue during the milonga.
You don't need to bring any email or paypal receipt unless you sign up at the last second or during the festival, and you think we did not see the payment come in.
You can register whenever you get here; if your first event is the 11am class, please allow some time to pick up your pass. Coffee is available nearby.
2. THURSDAY MILONGA
Time: 10pm-2am
Location: The Party Space, lower level Lerner Hall (same building as all the classes milongas and practicas). Map on the website.
3. CASH TICKETS AT THE DOOR, AND LAST-MINUTE SIGNUPS
If you bought a pass, milongas and practicas are included on the days you pass is valid for.
Milonga and practica tickets are also available for cash at the door; the prices are on the website.
Based on availability, single class tickets ($40) and some passes (priced as online) will be available at the door. For availability, see the link on this page. At the door we accept cash only, no credit cards or checks.
4. PARKING
There are parking garages on nearby streets.
Street parking:
Please read the signs! If in doubt, ask a local.
Street cleaning signs: many streets are cleaned twice or more often each week. The signs always have a picture of a BROOM on them, and tell you not to park there at certain hours on certain days because of street cleaning. Street cleaning is suspended on some holidays. By a lucky coincidence Thu Oct 4, Fri 5 and Mo 8 are holidays (but NOT SATURDAY). So you can disregard the street cleaning signs for those days. Any parking sign on the same block that does not have a broom on it is still in effect. If there are multiple signs, read all of them. Meters need to be fed during the same times that the time limit is in effect (eg. 2 hour parking 8am-8pm except Sunday).
Some streets in NYC, especially major avenues, have no overnight parking, and you may have to move before 11pm or whatever time it says on the sign.
Parking tickets can cost upwards of $120. Towing is not an empty threat. If you do get a ticket, move your car anyway because you will get an additional ticket every time a traffic officer walks by.
5 SUBWAY
Buy a Metrocard at a vending machine (takes cash, debit or credit). Transfers between bus and subway are included.
AIRPORT TO CITY
If you are flying into La Guardia Airport, you're in luck! The M60 city bus takes you from the terminals to the door of the Festival venue (Broadway at 116th Street). The cost: all of $2 ! You will need a metrocard or $2 in coins.
Those of you flying into JFK, take the Air Train to the A line (Howard Beach station) and take the A train to Manhattan/Bronx. It's an express which does not stop at 116th Street, so transfer to the C train at 59th Street Columbus Circle; if you forget, you can get off at 125th Street and take the C one stop back. Cost: $5 for Air Train + $2 for subway. Buy a Metrocard to pay for both.
6. STUDENT DISCOUNTS
Please do not forget to bring your valid student ID! Without your valid student ID, the only way to get your pass is by paying the difference. If you are worried you might forget, please email a color scan of your ID or some other proof of your student status in reply to this email. Thanks!
7. HOTEL
If you have left your hotel registration for the last minute, try www.kayak.com, www.hotwire.com or www.priceline.com for a good deal.
8. WATER BOTTLES
Water bottles are available for $1 at the registration desk during the milonga. Please use single dollars or change, thanks!
