DATE: January 15, 2009
The DPTO is pleased to present an update on its activities and plans
The DPTO met with STUCCO, Mr. Richard, and Ms. Hurley before winter break to brainstorm ideas on ways STUCCO and DPTO can work together to help green the school. Helping to obtain sturdy, uniform recycling bins and to educate the Discovery Families and Staff about recycling was decided on as a joint activity. The DPTO will be also discussing a possible “Movie Night” fundraiser to do with STUCCO to raise funds for this project. Meetings to start this will be taking place soon.
DPTO has a rough balance of $1904. Funds budgeted for Spring at this time include: Staff Appreciation Week expenses, 2 more large wooden picnic tables, and any expenses for initial output of any future fundraisers. Loan agreement with Ms. Giles for this school year have been paid off.
DPTO is exploring the possibility of doing the following events this spring: Movie Night at school, Garage Sale, and will help school-led event of Family Night on April 30.
May 4-9 In The DPTO has a week long plan to appreciate the staff at Discovery. Coordination with Administration will continue to make sure it runs smooth. Ideas include cleaning and sprucing up the lounge, giving logo water bottles to each staff member, a picnic lunch on the Friday of the week, and treats everyday with messages. DPTO will be advertising and informing parents of this week and giving ideas to parents on ways to “appreciate” your teacher. Ie-put in newsletter “21 ways your child can show his/her appreciation”.
Final Goals for DPTO this year include finishing up job descriptions and By-Laws for DPTO to have set for Elections for DPTO officers for the following school year at General Assembly in May.
