Description:
Student Cultural exchange that could lead to greater academic collaberation between the two schools in the future.
Questions for the conference that would be agreed to by both schools and prepared in advance by both schools.
1. Classes would divide up the questons and areas to be covered and prep all their answers in advance. Certain students would be responsible for certain questions so everyone is involved in the process, both prepping the answers and presenting them the day of the video conference.
2. Visuals and video interviews could be prepared by students prior to the conference that could be used in the conference. Multiple video conference days may be required based on the class schedule. Photos could be taken of the two schools that could also be used in the presentation.
Students will use the following suggested questions to guide their research and expand on each.
Questions:
1. Give a discription of your school. (Size, population, and location)
2. When do you attend school?
3. What is your dress code? Why?
4. How long is your lunch? Does your school have a cafeteria? Describe what you do with lunch time if given one.
5. What is the length of your school day?
6. Does your campus allow sport events or club organizations? What are those events or clubs and how do you become active in them?
7. Describe Graduation Traditions. What are the requirements to graduate? Do you have a Graduation ceremony?
8. What types of technology do you have available in your classroom? (ex. laptops, ipods, computers)
9. Describe your course of study, education path or career plan.
10. Describe your teachers. Who can teach, what credentials do they need, and are they strict?
Learner Outcomes/Curriculum Goals:
Students will research similarities and differences in education systems in other countries.
Time: One Week
Preparation: Internet Research, Power Point Presentation, Video Connection
Materials: Images, Props, Posters
Video Conferences Agenda
Day One: Select or Assign the country to the group. Provide students with guidelines and individual tasks to answer questions.
Day Two: Research Country education.
Day Three: Create a plan and prepare visuals to diliver their findings.
Day Four: Practice the presentation and conduct a test run.
Day Five: Deliver the presentation.
Presenation Agenda:
Introduction will be given by each school.
School A - up to 3 minutes to present question #1
School B -up to 3 minutes to present question #1
Both classes take 2 minutes to formulate questions to each other about question 1
Each class gets up to 4 minutes to ask question to the other group about question 1
Then the process continues to question 2 with the same format
Post Activities:
Create a chart with categories detailing facts on education. What are the differences and similarities of each country?
Develop a comparison or analysis of how foreign schools differ from our home schools.
Create a Schools without Borders blog to continue discussions on topic.
Formulate surveys or polls on multiple subjects within the different educational systems.
Assessment & Evaluation:
Students' learning will be assessed through participation grades and individually made teacher rubrics.

This project is designed for two or more schools to develop understanding of foreign education. It may be an ongoing lesson through blogs and further research.
