You must first poll fellow students from around the school, getting at least 5 people who have not yet answered these questions for anyone else. We don’t want people appearing more than once in our results.
The three questions you will ask your fellow students are:
how many hours do you watch TV on an average week?
how many hours do you spend on the internet (surfing, IMing, on YouTube, Facebook, etc) on an average week?
how many hours do you spend playing video games on an average week?
Record the answers from the questions on the table below, then input the data onto the class spreadsheet at http://tinyurl.com/5ur2oc

Once I give the go ahead in class (when everyone has submitted their data), please do the following. You can do it by hand, using a calculator, or using Excel (if you choose to do this via Excel, you may want to just type/copy/paste this out rather than writing it).
For the following questions, assume a normal distribution.
1. Calculate the mean, median, mode, range and standard deviation for the three questions from the class data.
2. Assume that the students we polled are representative of the whole school, where the schools population is 500 students.
a) What % will watch less than 5 hours of TV on an average week? How many people is this?
b) What % will watch between 6 hours and 15 hours of TV on an average week? How many people is this?
c) What % will watch more than 20 hours of TV on an average week? How many people is this?
3. Assume that the students we polled are representative of the whole school, where the schools population is 500 students.
a) What % will spend less than 5 hours on the Internet on an average week? How many people is this?
b) What % will spend between 6 hours and 15 hours on the Internet on an average week? How many people is this?
c) What % will spend more than 20 hours on the Internet on an average week? How many people is this?
4. Assume that the students we polled are representative of the whole school, where the schools population is 500 students.
a) What % will spend less than 5 hours gaming on an average week? How many people is this?
b) What % will spend between 6 hours and 15 hours gaming on an average week? How many people is this?
c) What % will spend more than 20 hours gaming on an average week? How many people is this?
d) Is there a difference between males and females in terms of their gaming habits? Explain in as much detail as you can.
