4:05 ish....we will see if I get a chance to test with John Maklary / Elizabeth and will add info here |
http://jp2washingtondc.blogspot.com John is going to show how to bring out-of-school field trip experiences back to school through the use of Sound Seeing Tours. Students record, in real time, their views and observations of D.C landmarks and sites as they see them. They are posted to the blog along with pictures and a "Where's Bernie?" game so students (and parents) back home can try to guess where the 8th graders are with selected clues. Why do this? Through this activity, students develop their observation skills and descriptive language to convey ideas. It also promotes active listening and visualization. |
CHAMP: switch the yugma to John Maklary |
|
WE MUST BE DONE SHARING BY 4:10 so we can have some wrap up |

During the time from 3:30 - 4:10 ...would like to provide 10 min "mini sessions" to introduce our "network" and show examples of "best practices"
Each session should give a brief...who are you...how we connected....what is your tool....how it is used....why this is more effective than traditional instruction.
PLEASE ADD: skype contact, email contact, location, grade/level taught, ONE tool, brief description of how you use it & any web links you want us to share,

Sharing: VoiceThread
We use VoiceThread in the classroom to record our thoughts, ideas and research. It allows us to present and share our information in visual, written and audio form. It's easy to use and we can use at school or at home and we can all contribute to it at our own pace. We look for or make suitable images for our work so it's a neat way to learn about Creative Commons and Copyright guidelines. We can also show off our own creative works by scanning in our own artwork. We've used VoiceThread in the past with another class in another place so it works well for collaboration. My last year's spanish class created a VoiceThread to consolidate their language lessons and I have a VoiceThread at the moment that is documenting my own Learning of Spanish as I prepare for a Language Immersion Award 6 week trip to South America. We are currently working on a Tribute VoiceThread to Sir Edmund Hilary (a great New Zealand man) who recently passed away. We have shared this voicethread with other schools around New Zealand so that they can contribute to it as well.

Sharing Collaboration I would like to talk about elluminate's Free Vroom. While it is not the full set up from Elluminate it is definitely something to check into since the $$ is free. I would talk about how I used it with a class from Alabama to collaborate. I will set up the vroom and invite you in to showcase what is happening in my class. I or they will interact with the whiteboard through the smartboard I have in the class. (this is not yugma but it something that I have tried and like the ease of connecting classrooms with interaction. Here is an update Kristin. See You on the 6th
3:55 Elizabeth Helfant (St Louis MO- Central Time) History Class Portfolios - Google Docs and xTimelines
Micdsus.squarespace.com - entire course is online and all student writing done with google docs and an electronic journal. Shared docs allow feedback during the learning process. COurse is taught thematically and students build out timelines using xtimeline. Parents and peers have access to much work...Final research project will be done collaboratively using a wiki.
ID is ehelfant on everything.

4:10 Conclusion Q & A Turn and talk...how you can bring this back and incorporate into your class...discussion on wiki...
_________________________NOTES________________________________
Maria Knee here - i also use class blogmeister. I use lots of photo sharing sites to show what we do in our classroom. I'd be glad to talk about the wiki projects that we have worked with and also a recent one that I started.
From Lisa Parisi: I am available after 3:20, when I dismiss my class. I can show anything on my website. Links include student and teacher created wikis, classblogmeister blogsite (can also show my lisaslingo.blogspot.com site), recordings of skype calls, and many podcasts and voicethreads. I can also show my delicious account and IGoogle page for tagging and rss feeds. http://herricks.org/webpages/spcollaborative/
Q: You are feeding off your Connected Classroom wiki, yes?
A: Yes...will have a link from there...http://theconnectedclassroom.wikispaces.com/petec2008..
Ustream is more for Archiving...all participants will be live via skype...you can stay as long as you like kind of like being a guest on ed tech talk...this google doc will serve as an outline
Lisa Parisi (Long Island, NY) Grade 5 choose your topic (If I show class blogmeister, I can save editing for you and show how easy it is)
Lisa that would be GREAT because class blogmeister is good for ALL kids and I am not real familiar with it...I can share blogspot -Kristin Hokanson 1/21/08 8:02 PM
From Chrissy H: We will have a voicethread tribute to Sir Edmund Hilary that we could share with you - My students will have only been at school for 1 week so might be good to show just how easy it is to use and embed in a wiki. http://www.room18tis.wikispaces.com .
Voicethread is ready with images (have opened it up to other schools in NZ too) just need to have students add their comments.
http://voicethread.com/#u1618.b42117.i221201
YES...want to show...quick and easy...want to show how easy it is to "get connected"
ehelfant - I added this to the tablet below but then thought I'd let you decide... I can really do anytime but 4 (later) is better....Helfant (St Louis MO) History Class Portfolios - Google Docs and xTimelines -We do history this way because it makes the learning process more transparent...portfolio allows for easy viewing of student progress.. Kids have embraced this and use quizlet flashcards and notefish to collaborate on notes without us.. I can also do any of the other topics I emailed you..
John Maklary - didn't see much in the time slots. I could show something on bubbl.us for brainstorming or even some sound seeing tours our 8th graders did last year in Washington DC.. using a blog to podcast and play a "Where in the world" game with kids back at school in Houston. Also have a school-wide del.icio.us account that we are using to compile a school community list of links. Anyhoo, I can be a backup, pinch hitter, or whatever if there isn't enough room for everyone to present something. Happy to help or just happy to listen in. Thanks for having me Kristin.
------------------------(email sent to collaborators for test session)--------------------------
Test run Wed., Feb 6th 4:00 pm EST
This will give us a chance to test our set up and to make sure that everyone can connect via skype and share their desktop using Yugma
Please reply to this email to confirm your interest in sharing on the 11th as well as your availability on Feb 6th
THANKS AGAIN
