Experiment Nine – Earth’s Magnetic Field
Introduction
The components in this experiment allow for precise observation and measurement of the Earth’s gravitational field.
Procedure
The gravitational field can be measure by create a circuit that will generate an electromagnetic field. This circuit will consist of a current limiting resistor, the DMM, and the power supply all in series with each other. The circuit should pass through 5 loops. The more loops the current pass through the stronger the magnetic field will be generated. Several trials should be run with varying voltage and angles to observe appropriate effects with the vertical and horizontal components of the magnetic field B. For example, according to our data, Be will decrease as the angle increases. In the same way, Bm will increase as the angle increases. One will also notice a difference in the field depending on the number of loops in the current carrying wire. Data should be as follows:
