Description of zones



  A. Information Desk Zones

    The Information Desks are located on the 1st floor and the 2nd floor.
    The first floor information desk provides computer support through technical staff.
    At the second floor the information desk is staffed by ordinary library staff and offers library service.

  B. Computer Zones

    The computer zones are located on the 1st, 2nd and 5th floors. They are equipped with terminals for the users.
    There are two kinds of computers:
  • Consulting computers: to be used standing up, for a quick search or browse in the catalog. 
  • Workstations: to work sitting down for more time.

    Also in the computer area we distinguish between silent and ordinary (loud).
    There are two silent areas in the Learning Center. At the first floor the 24 hours room (B3) and at the second floor a quiet room (B2).

   C. Sitting Down Zones

         These areas are for diverse uses: reading, writing or talking in group. They are located in every floor.
         There are two kinds of zones with tables:
  • Study zones with normal desks.
  • Rest zones with coffee tables where it is difficult to write but with comfortable couches and armchairs.

  D. Periodicals
  
    This zones hold the periodicals which the library is subscribed.
       There are two kinds of zones:
  •  D1 New issues: the first two shelves and a display shelf are for the novelties and the next ones are alphabetical order shelves. Also we include in this zone one shelf with law issues (although they are not periodicals).
  • D2 Old issues are collected in boxes in a separated room.

  E. Book Shelves


     These zones contain printed books arranged according to the Dewey Decimal classification (DDC).

    

    E1 Fiction: includes poetry and fiction.

    E2 Practice: elementary school books (includes some picture books for children)

    E3 Children's books

    E4 Reference books and Dewey Decimal classification numbers 0, 1 and 2 (Generalities, Philosophy & Psycology and Religion)  

    E5 Dewey Decimal Classification numbers 3, 4 and 5 (Social Sciences, Language and Natural Sciences)    

    E6 Dewey Decimal Classification number 6 (Technology)                

    E7 Dewey Decimal Classification numbers 7, 8 and 9 (Artistic Stuff, Literature, Geography & History)    


    We have in addition, defined the collection of books on DDC Classification 0 (Information and Library Science) that is on the 5th floor as a separated zone, called E 0-2.

  F. Group Rooms Zones


    These zones are separated rooms designed for the students to work in group. For brainstorming, prepare for the presentations, discussions, study in group for examinations, etc...        Many of the group rooms are equipated with a high screen that helps working in group with a laptop. Also is possible to use special computers to edit videos or journals in the 5th            floor. The group rooms are located in all the P48 building but we have observed the main floors related to the Learning Center group rooms on 2nd and 5th floors. Each floor have 16        group rooms in total.


There are two types of group rooms;

 

  • Visibles: have the possibility to observe what is happening inside thanks to a glass wall without producing any disturb.
  • Less visibles: the only way to observe inside is opening the door, it is not very good because for the observation is necessary disrupt the work. And sometimes this situation produce that they were in a rage.

  G. Printing and copying machines Zones

    This zones are equipated with printer and copying machines for the users. When the place is not enough big to consider it like a zone we include it in a bigger zone.

  H. DVD, CD and Student Papers Zone

    In this zone there are shelves with this materials: films and documentaries in DVD, music and audiobooks in CDs and the student papers.

  I. Newspapers and Journalism Issues Zone

    This zone provides current newspapers and professional issues for the journalism and communication sciences students.

 L. HALL Zone

    The hall zone is on the first floor. Although is not inside the conventional and traditional library space, we have considered like an extension of the Learning Center because of the          usage that the students make of it.
