  • I can do bullet lists

  1. I can do numbered lists

Or no lists at all

I can bold text

Or underline text

Or italicise text

I can indent text

And change the colour of my text

Or even give my text a background colour

ŠÞÊç!@| characters can be inserted Other people can add stuff in their own font and colour too or they can insert a colour coded comment -Kate Makowiecka 10/24/08 3:38 PM and once you've inserted a comment it remembers the background colour that you selected -Kate Makowiecka 10/24/08 3:41 PM

I can highlight a word and then from the Tools menu I can look up look for a definition or a synonym of that word, or look it up in a dictionary

The Tools menu can also be used to look up the revision history ...

There is a range of text styles as well, to change the look of your text, plus I can change the text size

Note the word size above is hyperlinked so you can click to go to some definitions of it -Sue Dowling 10/23/08 9:07 PM

Comments can be inserted (see above) - and you can see who's done it.

And if I put my cursor somewhere in the comment I get an editing menu - eg change the colour

Yes, there's a spellcheck function - picks up some things that I wouldn't have expected to pick up - and some that I would expect. Clicking on Tools and selecting Done Spelling turns off the highlighting that the check picked up. and you can change the spell check language so that it spells colour with a u -Kate Makowiecka 10/24/08 3:39 PM -

Choosing the Help menu can take you to the Google Docs Help Center, or I can Learn from other Google users, watch a video introduction, and get a list of keyboard shortcuts. Many of the last look the same as those used in other document creation and editing programmes.

Text can be right or left justified, or centred

Just like a Word document really!
Maybe it doesn't have ALL the functionality of Microsoft Word. But I think it's got enough for most purposes.

So how would you use Google Docs?
Would be good for work purposes where you have a number of people working collaboratively on a document.

What do you like about it?
I like the ease of sharing and the ability to track history and versions.

What do you not like about it?
Best not used for documents with sensitive or confidential information. Don't forget it's stored somewhere else on Google's server. How private is it?
